I forgot to mention that the second set ended 6-1, but Tipsy looks more concentrated and Alex is having to work very hard on his serve at 0-1 in the final set
Brilliant bh down the line to save BP for 0-4, but Tipsy's virtually error-free controlled aggression is causing problems - Alex hangs on though for 1-3
Quality match, fair result. Good atmosphere - hardly an empty seat to be seen. In his post-match interview Tipsy said that the organisation and crowd was much better than in many ATP events
Thanks for the match info DavidC, was very much appreciated. Did you hear Boggo's post-match interview ?
Sounds like Alex played a fabulous 2nd set, 14 winners and just 3 unforced errors is superb and it looks as though Tipsy went a bit off the boil aswell.
Would you say that Alex's level dipped in the final set or did Tipsy just raise his game ? I wonder if tiredness came into play a little, as Alex had so man, draining 3 setters this week. It's always key to get off to a good start in deciding sets, when Alex played Henman in Bangkok at the end of the 2nd set he was really matching Tim and Tim was looking a little rattling. Alex played several careless shots to be broken early in the 3rd and the momentum completely shifted.
I sensed that although Alex played very well in the 2nd set Tipsy had lost concentration early on, and then decided to have a swing and go for short points for the remainder of the set. The key to the third set was Tipsy regaining control early on with good solid play, and never relinquishing it (Alex was never close to breaking back). Tiredness may have been a factor in the last 2 games, which went very quickly, but was not evident before that.
As usual, the broadcasters only interviewed the winner.
