Well done James, good to see someone getting some success unexpectedly in a quiet week for British tennis.

Wow, just got the chance to check this thread and those are two amazing wins for James
Munoz de la Nava has done well in challengers this year aswell as winning several futures titles, beating him has got to give James a huge amount of confidence.
All the hard work of grinding away in futures on clay is paying off and his 2nd quarter-final of the year will mean that he will move up to a career high ranking of approx 1037. Only a few months ago, he was ranked in the 1400s.
Now James plays 8th seed David Marrero-Santana. He's ranked 424 with a career best of 265 from 2005. Last week he made the final of Spain F32 so he's in form. He made another futures final at the start of the year and has made several quarters and semis aswell as reaching the quarters of the Telde Challenger, beating Bloomers 2 and 3 along the way. However, a poor run of form from May to June when he had lots of pts to defend, saw his ranking plunge and in the summer he had to qualify for some futures.
Get in there James, keep on going all the way to the title.

What a string of results he's had this week, beating Munoz de la Nava and Marrero Santana [a guy who beat Bloomfield on clay] in Spain is amazing. That's the best performance by a Brit ranked outside the top 1000 this year, eclipsing Daniel Cox's run in Wrexham in August.
Does this give him a SE into Spain F34 this week ?

Oddly enough despite Spain F33 last week and Spain F35 next week there doesn't appear to be an F34 this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!????????????!!!!!!!!!

Oops, I forgot Searle He's had an amazing few months since July going from completely unranked to the 800s, making a semi and several quarters. However, I'd still say that Ward's run to the semis here is the best performance from a brit ranked outside the top 1000 as he beat higher ranked players than Searle did in Frinton where the entry list was weakened due to the Manchester challenger happening in the same week.
I think you're right UBF. Wards results this week have been great. Its given me hope that he can really push into the top 500 over the next 12 months. He's done it the hard way as well, winning loads of qualifying matches week in and week out to get his ranking where it is, which has meant when he gets his chances he's more ready to take them.
He could have got his ranking where it is quicker by playing in Africa but would'nt have the match hardness to survive in Europe that he clearly has from playing in Spain so much.
