Another QF spot for Morgan!

Johnny said Morgan beat Nicau to reach the QFs.  But, I don't know where that info's from.

He's now reached the semis too, with a second win against a higher-ranked player in a row

Recap:

R1: Morgan Phillips WR 666 beat (Q) Kamil Filali (MAR) WR 1542 by 3 & 3
R2: Morgan Phillips WR 666 beat (6) Goncalo Nicau (POR) WR 582 by 1 & 4
QF: Morgan Phillips WR 666 beat (4) Blaz Kavcic (SLO) WR 534 by 2-6 6-4 6-1

SF: Morgan Phillips WR 666 v (7) Vjekoslav Skenderovic (CRO) WR 602

Most of Skenderovic's points come from relatively easy Futures in Romania in June and July. This is a real chance for Morgan to reach another Final.

Great going. Outside the UK, not a bad week in futures!

Wow, Morgan going on a real giant-killing run this week, beating 3 seeds A superb run of results

Lets hope he can secure his 2nd 10K futures win, [his first was in Italy back in May]. He'll be up against it though, 8th seed Thiemo De Bakker is the current world junior no 1. In 2005 he won the European junior championships and the Casablanca Cup and this year he's won 4 Grade 1 events, made the semis of the junior French Open and he also won junior Wimbledon.

In the seniors, De Bakker is at a career high ranking of 628 at the moment. He's not had a particularly good year in the seniors before this tournament with a couple of exceptions [in July he had his first ATP win in Amersfoort, beating Julien Benneteau 6-3, 6-3 before losing to Marc Gicquel in 3 sets].

Rankings-wise: If Morgan wins today, he'll move up to 573 and if he loses he'll move up to 602.

He's currently ranked 666

(8)Thiemo de Bakker (NED) d. Morgan Phillips (GBR) 7-6(5) 6-4

Great week for Morgan. De Bakker is obviously a star of the future but it would seem to have been a pretty lose match up.

Morgan is much further down the entry list for Portugal F5 which suggests it will be a harder tournament. Let's hope e can keep this up

Still, it was a very close match from the scoreline, probably just a couple of points in it. It's been a great week for Morgan, he's up to 602 when the lists are updated with futures results next Monday, which will put him close to his career best of 591.

For Portugal F5, the top 8 seeds on the entry list are similar to those for Portugal F4 but there's a lot more strength in depth in the Portugal F5 entry list.

Such a pity he could not capitalise with a win...never mind.....onwards and upwards for Morgan !
