Great draw for Morgan Philips.

R1  vs Kamil Filagi (q) (MOR) raNKED 1558 WHICH I think means he's got just one ranking point.

Indeed, this is a match Phillips should win. If he were to get through he would probably face Goncalo Nicau who he played in a Quarter final of a similar event in Spain earlier this year. The result was a bizarre:

2006

Spain F25
Spain

Clay

Q

Nicau

0-6 6-0 6-4

Although Nicau went on to win that tournament on Clay, he also has impressive results on hard courts, including a final this year at Futures level. If Phillips were to face Nicau in the 2nd round, I would suggest he has a very hard time on his hands.

Yeah Kamil Filagi has just one ranking point so Morgan should win pretty comfortably. It's good to see him going for futures again, if he wins this will be his first ranking point since the beginning of August. I think he should probably wait until he's in the top 400 before going for challengers, that way he might be seeded in qualifying for some of them.

By the way, welcome to the message board John

Yeah, that was a very strange result against Nicau, Morgan took nearly two weeks off after it so I wondered whether he maybe sustained an injury after the 1st set of that match.

Well done Morgan....

So we have 3 Brits in futures QF...Morgan here, James Ward in Spain and Flan the Man in Jersey !

Surely we can get 2/3 into the semis ?

Edit - Flanagan won his QF yesterday....so can either James or Morgan join him in a semi...maybe even both ?

Great win for Morgan Must have felt good to get revenge over Nicau after their match a couple of months ago.

The 2 points gained so far will see him back into the top 650 and up to approx 637.
Who does he play in the quarters ?

Where did you find that out Drew ?

Until last month, Perez-Perez has had an extremely poor year which has seen him drop out of the top 1000. He got beaten 6-1, 6-2 by James Ward in July. However, in September, he reached the semis of a Spain F29, beating Ward in the quarters which has seen him move back up to 868. Since then he qualified for Spain F30 but lost in rd1. Here, he's just beaten the seeded Slovenian Blaz Kavcic [wr:534] in rd2.

Perez-Perez is on form but this is an excellent chance for Morgan to reach his 1st semi since May.
