The tennis section on 606 just consists of a few threads with about 4 or 5 posts at most in them.
I think it happened because in the end there were just so many complaints coming through from the members about the message boards and the threads were just getting more and more ridiculous eg: "Federer is crap....discuss" and "hottest female tennis player on tour," "how crap are these boards...discuss", etc.
The Beeb boards used to be really good but a lot of the decent posters had now long gone or still visited but hardly posted. I think the problem there was that they didn't have a very good moderating system. On here, if we get any trolls their posts are immediately deleted and they get a warning and then if they offend again they get banned. On the Beeb, trolls were allowed to roam free unless they actually posted with offensive language and the pre-mod system seemed to keep backfiring, decent posters ended up on pre-mod.
I did like 'boggo sends chilling warning to federer'
half of the problem is that so many people reply to the wind up merchants that they keep on coming, same with all the anti fed messages, there is no obligation to reply.

The boards haven't actually gone yet, the Beeb has just removed the links to them. They actually close at the end of November.
They were my first introduction to message boards and I feel sad at the way things have gone recently. The BBC used to be my first port of call, recently it had dropped down to about 6th - I occasionally posted there, but it was getting really hard to find a decent thread. I had a quick look at the new board and the trolls have moved there, so I think I will just cross the BBC off my list altogether!
The Beeb forums were my first message boards aswell, I think I first checked them out in 2003 but never posted, BTZ was the first forum which I joined.
There used to be lots of sensible discussion on each ATP tournament in the calendar on there but that seems to have long gone though there have been sparks of revival in the slams. When do you think it first started to go downhill ?
It's the 2nd big fan forum to have collapsed in the last couple of months, the other one was Nadal's fan site: vamosrafael.com. I'm not entirely sure what happened there, I think there were problems between the administrator and the mods and the mods all went on strike.
good job most of us have nothing but praise (and constructive critism) for alex then Count.
I 'discovered' message boards through the beeb ones so it's a shame they disintergrated quite so much but I haven't been on there for a while now as it became almost impossible to find threads on topic without reading things I'd rather not.
