He's played very few broad.

Oddly, back in 2000, Flan The Man's 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th professional tournaments were satellites in Bulgaria, though he didn't qualify for any.

In 2002, he played 1 lost 1 in India.

In 2003, he went to Romania, and lost in 1st round qualifying.

In April 2004, he travelled to Qatar to play in two futures. He qualified for the second, but lost to Jamie Delgado in 1st rnd main draw.

Since then he's never played abroad, chosing to only play in GB, including in June 2004, his famous run at Queens.

What can you make of Flan the Man?  He has talent, and yet doe not want to go abroad and seems to be able to turn it on after a string of awful results.  A straight set win against some ranked 300 places higher is fantastic!

I do remember from when Flanagan had his run at queens they mentioned that he'd had Chronic Ftigue syndome or some similar condition. It was reported to have cleared up, but these kind of things can come back i guess. There's clearly a decent amount of telent in him, just a shame he can't be more consistent.

Semi finals:

Jean-Claude Scherrer (Sui) bt Ian Flanagan (Gbr) 7-5 6-3

Daniel King-Turner (Nzl) bt Stefano Ianni (Ita) 6-2 6-1, Wow - good win for King-Turner - looking for his second British futures win of the year

Flan the man gains 6 pts for his efforts which will take him up to 637 from 702.
He also has the consolation of knowing that he lost to the eventual winners. Scherrer beat King-Turner 7-5, 7-6 in the final.

Excellent run from Ian, some superb giant-killing performances last week. Afterwards he said “I really like coming to Jersey to play. I made the final here last time, I played well all week. I had a few chances today but Scherrer served very well.”
