Evans I don't know about and I'm shocked that he isn't here.
Oh yes, I forgot about the Osaka Mayor Cup. Maybe Hilton thought it would be more beneficial for Evans to put some more training in at Nottingham, I expect he'll get a wc into the challenger qualifying there in a couple of weeks time.
I'm surprised that Dyce isn't playing here aswell, or is he in Japan too ?
Nick Van Der Meer (Ned) bt Neil Bamford (Gbr) 6-4 6-3
Ian Flanagan (Gbr) bt Tom Rushby (Gbr) 7-6 (7-5) 6-2
David Klier (Ger) bt Michel Koning (Ned) 7-6 (7-1) 7-6 (8-6)
Philipp Marx (Ger) bt Edward Seator (Gbr) 6-2 7-5
Jim May (Gbr) bt Ralph Grambow (Ger) 4-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-4
David Brewer (Gbr) bt Ross Hutchins (Gbr) 7-6 (7-3) 6-2
Ladislav Chramosta (Cze) bt Luca Vanni (Ita) 6-2 6-4
Most of those were pretty much expected apart from the Flanagan and May results. Good to see Jim returning to form, that was a great win against a player ranked around 200 places higher
Flanagan proves as mercurial as ever, Rushby's been in great form lately but on his day, Ian has the ability to beat most players in the GB futures fields. Does anyone think he will find the consistency to break top 500 one day ?
Matt Illingworth was drawn against Australian Clinton Thompson in rd1 but Thompson withdrew and was replaced by British lucky loser Konstantinos Kalaitzis in rd1. Kalaitzis took full advantage of his good fortune and secured his 2nd ranking point with a 6-4, 6-7[5], 6-3 win.
Flan the man rides again. Funny, after that run at Queens I always thought he'd break through. I know he is a friend of Roddick.....I wonder if he will ever crack the top 300....he clearly has the talent.
