Alex Slabinsky will be the leading Brit here, no 10 on the entry list. It's a good chance for him to do well as the field is very weak for a 15K, the top seed is ranked only 396. He could do with a good run as he's defending 2 pts from last year and also quite a sackload of points from the satellite in November.
Other Brits are Ross Hutchins, Neil Bamford and Ian Flanagan.
Wildcards are likely to go to Rushby, Searle, Brewer and either Cox or Evans.
9 - A Slabinsky 13 - Ross Hutchins 14 - Neil Bamford 17 - Ian Flanagan
Alts :
19 - Tom Rushby 21 - Jim May 22 - Rob Searle 24 - D Brewer 25 - T Burn 39 - Ed Seator 45 - T Greenland 50 - R Dee ??? 54 - Ed Allinson 57 - Sean Thornley
WC...Maybe Cox and Evans...since not on the entry list ?
Hopefully Sean Thornley can qualify for a futures for the first time, he's come close several times previously. He had a tough match today against Swede Henrik Norfledt but I reckon if he was on top form he could have won.
I reckon Matt Illingworth and Ed Allinson will cause upsets against higher ranked foreigners. Allinson's big serve should be very effective on the fast indoor courts at Jersey. Richard Irwin, Thomas Greenland and Konstantinos Kalaitzis also look likely to get through.
Tom Rushby probably got into the main draw via a withdrawal and possibly Jim May aswell so it looks like wildcards have gone to Searle, Brewer, Burn and maybe one of Cox or Evans.
This tournament is being shown live on Jersey TV, no one on here lives over there by any chance ?
From tomorrow, I'll phone regularly to find the latest British results.
We have no seeds, our top ranked player is the man known as Slabba (never thought I'd type that). Even usual p.o.i. Dan Cox and Robert Searle are missing . We are going to need someone to really play above themselves to get any British interest past the second round.
The somewhat eccentric assignment of Wildcards is David Brewer, Jim May, Ed Seator, and Tom Burn.
Another really horrible 1st round match-up for Slabba, he's got 4th seed Stefano Ianni [wr: 435]. The good news for Alex is that Ianni is an out and out clay-courter and has only played 1 match indoors this autumn which he lost in two tiebreaks. He's had a lot of success in futures, reaching a couple of finals but they've all been on clay. Earlier this year, Ianni really struggled in the indoor tournaments in January.
We're guaranteed two Brits in rd2: Tom Rushby plays Ian Flanagan and Ross Hutchins plays David Brewer. On current form, Rushby and Brewer have to be big favourites to reach rd2. Hutchins beat Brewer 6-3, 6-4 in their last match but that was in 2002.
Tom Burn should make rd2, he plays a French qualifier who's just got 1 ranking point.
I reckon Ed Allinson has a decent chance of securing his 2nd point, he plays Belarussian qualifier Egor Puntus [wr: 948]. Puntus has played mostly on clay this year.
I wonder where Searle, Cox and Evans are this week !

Probably in the pub getting drunk wondering why David Brewer, Jim May, Ed Seator, and Tom Burn got the WCs
