For a change, Andy will gain points if he wins his first (R2) match. He'll overtake Niemenen as well!


Ancic, Gasquet and Niemenen drop places as they're defending points from Tokyo and Metz last year. Andy's defending 21 points from the Mons challenger last year.

Unfortunately the line to Imoen's down right now, so I'll try to fill you all in on the possibilities.


If Andy Wins  in Tokyo, he returns to 16th. No- one can overtake him.


If Andy makes the Final, he also returns to 16th. Ferrero can overtake if he wins in Metz, knocking Andy back to 17th.


If Andy makes the Semis, he also returns to 16th. Ferrero  can overtake if he makes the final in Metz. Tursunov can overtake if he wins in Tokyo, making it a worst case of 18th


If Andy makes the Quarters,  best case is again 16th. Ferrero (Semis,Metz), Niemenen(Semis,Tokyo), Tursunov(Final, Tokyo) and  Djokovic(Winner, Metz) can overtake. So worst case is a drop of 1 to 20th.


If Andy makes R3, best case is 18th. Niemenem(Q,T), Tursunov(F,T), Djokovic(W,M) can overtake. Worst case is a drop of 2 to 21st


If Andy loses in R2, best case is to stay at 19th. Tursunov(F,T), Djokovic(W,M) can overtake. Worst case is a drop of 2 to 21st.


To summarise: Only Djoko & Tursunov of those behind him can overtake Andy this week, and Dimo would need to be a finalist & Novak the winner of their tournaments to make it past.


Meanwhile Andy can overtake Niemenen with just a second round win (his first match), and get past JCF & Hewitt with a QF place. 


Pins into JCF, Niemenen, Tursunov and Djokovic.


JC Ferrero and Novak Djokovic will probably be in action on Monday or Tuesday


Edit: with Tursunov winning his final in Bombay on Monday, he gains a place and extra points, meaning that he only needs a Semi- finals place to overtake Andy if he goes out in R2 or R23.

With Andy out, all eyes turn to Dmitry  Tursunov: if he gets to the semis, he'll overtake.


Also, Novak Djokovic in Metz can draw level if he reaches the final (but lose out on Masters & Grand Slam points) and overtake if hw wins.

sterling job your doing Rob. and cograts on reaching 1000 posts. My internet connection is non existant at the moment so I'm unable to help out or be around much for the next week or so.


Hopefully Tursunov doesn't overtake, if the courts are really quick that should be in our favour as Tursunov a) MUST be exhausted by now and b) may have difficulties adapting to the new surface after winning in India.

Ancic and Rochus also go out.


Djokovic advances a place: He's breathing down Dimo & Andy's necks, and looking very dangerous in Metz: just Grosjean, Melzer and Gicquel left there with him
