James holds to love.

He needs to continue putting pressure on Tursunov's serve.

DT is obviously startign to read james game much better and thats oftena  problem agaisnt the top guys as when they get a hang of your game you aer in trouble. i think DT is also finfind his serve, hitting a lot of aces now.

And when is DT going to get tired from that long match last Sunday, then the travel and this week? lol....I was hoping that if James won a set then he'd take a tired blogger in the third.....

Hopefully that'll be the case, DT surely has to be feeling the effects from that 17-15 set against A-Rod and 3 sets yesterday.

two double faults in that game contribute to James being broken to 15.

Tursunov leads 3-2 final set with a break.

You have to expect the unexpected with DT though....a great guy and great player even if he does the strangest things....do you think he has a major in him?

From 30-0 up Auckland faces a break point at 30-40 but he saves it and wins the next two points and the game.

4-3 with a break to Tursunov.

Tursunov ends up winning 6-4 in the 3rd and wins by 2 sets to 1.

Quite the valiant effort from James to take a set off a player in the top 25 in the world and only to lose 6-4 in the 3rd and final set.

Tursunov wins 36 63 64.

An excellent showing from Auckland he did really well against the world number 22 only getting broken twice and out ace-ing him with 12 to DT's 10.

That was a fantastic performance from James Auckland, although I posted beforehand that I thought he had a chance, I really thought that he'd probably lose in straight sets and I'm delighted to be proven wrong.

Taking the world no 22 and one of the hardest hitters in the world to 3 close sets is a superb achievement, one of the best performances from a British player all year.

If James hadn't lost his concentration on serve those two times [he double-faulted twice in the game when he got broken in the 3rd set] or maybe taken that break point right at the start of the 3rd set, it could have been a completely different story.

This should give him loads of confidence, hopefully he can take that into tomorrow's doubles semi. On this form he should have a good chance of getting close to the top 250 by the end of the year.

After the match, James said that his results in Mumbai have shown him that he belongs at ATP Tour events.

“Dmitry is a world-class player and there’s no disgrace in losing to him,” he said.

“I’ve learnt a lot about myself this week and have reaffirmed my self-belief that I can compete and win at this level.

“It was a tough match today, but I felt I dealt with the situation well.

“I stuck to my gameplan throughout the match and was pleased with my performance.”
