Interesting to see how everyone wants boggo to win. I think this is because even with the best will in the world, Tim's best day's are behind him so a victory for Tim will change nothing fot British tennis. If Alex wins, maybe we'll have another top 100 player!
Interestingly, if Alex wins this match, it won't make that much difference to his ranking (I am not taking any points he is protecting into account). Alex has won a fairly trivial 15 points for his first round rin (and a less trivial $9k !) which will take him from a current 148th (295 points) to 138, equal with Greg. The 40 ponts for winning a second round match will only take him to 131st, just below wang who he beat in the first round.
What are Alex's plans for the remainder of the year?
Unfortunately Tim has broken and leads 4-1. Hopefully Alex can keep holding and then he might get his chance.

I agree steve, that's why I'm supporting Alex, the indoor season is his best time of the year so a good time to earn some points and make a move towards the top 100. Also, wins in an ATP give him so much confidence.
disapointing final set from alex, i think maybe the high pressure of the end of the 2nd and the start of the 3rd may have got to him. I also think losing the 2nd set would have given tim a real kick, losing to boggo would not have been good for him.
funny nobody had tim in 3, but after reflection i think alex can be happy with his performance in thailand, taking a set off Tim (who i guess would be on a high after beating Andy) on the fast indoor is quite impressive and i think Alex can take encourgament from not being totally outplayed,

yeah i heard tim chatting on five live at half 8 this morning - basically said that alex was playing above his ranking, and if he can consistently keep such a level of play up, there's nop reason he can't break the top 100!
Count Zero wrote: otehr reports are suggesting that tim said alex can become a good dc player and would be better for him to play than tim to come back.
Is that a polite dig at John Lloyd from Tim?
Thanks for the commentary and scores UBF and Vonce. Shame Boggo couldn't do more in the final set but it sounds like he threw the book at that match but Tim was just too good and there's no shame in that.
Hopefully he can take confidence and form into Mons and go deep there.

i wondered how gracious tim would be should he lose and whilst he has said generally nice things about alex he is blaming the loss of the 2nd set on bad line calls.

He did look quite angry at the linecalls. I wasn't watching the repeat that closely but to be honest, I never noticed anything particulary blatant in terms of bad calls.
Boggo played well - hopefully he can build on it. I don't know where he's due to play next, but I hope he comes out of this tournament and thinks 'this is the stage I should be playing on.'
