Are the top 16 seeded here or is it just the top 8 ?

I wonder if Tim will play qualies, I hope he does

Unfortunately it looks like Tim won't be involved here bar a wildcard. He's not entered for the qualies and there's unlikely to be enough withdrawals for him to make the cut.

Hopefully Andy gets a good draw and can get his form going again. The courts in Madrid are fast and quite bouncy, the ball really flies off the court.

Tim hasn't entered Paris either which is a disappointment. I think he has decided to concentrate on Tokyo, Vienna and Basel. I read somewhere his target is to be seeded for the Aus open, which he can do if he can maintain this level. A question though: if he has not entered qualifying, will he be eligible for an SE  for Madrid if he does really well in Vienna?  Perhaps if he canshow he would be a real threat the Parisians may be willing to give him a wild card. The French absolutely loved the attacking tennis he played when he won there in 2003, beating Davydeno, grosjean, Kuertan, Federer, Roddick and Pavel.  I remember that had to rely on withdrawals to make the cut....

I think Tim would have to ask for a wildcard.

This is a 48 draw event, which I think means there are 16 seeds who get a bye in the first round. As Andy will not be ranked as high as 16 on Monday he would not be seeded, but the upside is that he would not have to meet a top seed in the first round.....but then, maybe that is not so good, he seems to play better against the top players than he does against the lower ranks!

Safin,as a past champion, will definitely get a wild card.that means there ae 2 wild cards left which i reckon will go to 2 Spaniards

Safin does not need a wild card, he is in the entry list (no 7) using protected ranking.

I'm not sure Tim would get a wild card into Madrid, but I would have thought his chances for Paris were pretty good.

I would be surprised if Paris don't give Tim a wild card but you never know with the French.

Tim has been offered a wildcard [see thread in Henman, Rusedski and General tennis discussion].

Protected Ranking. When ur injured for a certain length of time (6 months+ i think) you can use your ranking prior to the injury for a while (something like 8 tournaments or 6 months whichever comes first)
