It's a shame that Ed lost but as johnny said, at least he got a point. He's been the most consistent British player on this African safari, he's got a point at every tournament I think.

Congrats to Miotto for getting to the quarters, he had some disappointing results in Rwanda and Sudan when he's been seeded to get to the quarters both times but lost against lower ranked opposition. Alex is Italian-born and is one of the growing group of players who train with Mike Raphael [who also coaches Boggo, Mackin and Delgado]. He says his favourite surface is grass.

Alex's first ever quarter-final was in Finland in August.

Who does Alex face in the quarters ?

Alex spent a part of his childhood in Africa. He plays (or played) for Bath uni along with Simon Harston.

In the quarters Alex faces the 5th seeded Lithuanian Gvidas Sabeckis [wr:814]. He's a clay-court specialist and the highlight of his 2006 has been making the final of a futures in Latvia in July. He's also made quarters of futures in Latvia and Poland.

Miotto lost 6-2, 6-4 in the quarters.

The two points gained from here will move him up quite a bit in the rankings
