Fantastic wins from both, especially Jonny, knocking out the top seed !!!
Jamie is really the 3-set king this week, grinding his way through 4 successive 3 setters. Looks like he really stepped up a gear after being outplayed in set 2.
Jamie and Jonny have never played before. You have to rate Jonny as the favourite having beaten the 1st and 4th seeds but I hope that Jamie wins [though of course I'm biased]
Here's the ranking info: Both have secured 12 points, the winner of the final will get 18 points.
If Jamie wins he will move up to 279, if he loses he will move up to 285. He's currently ranked 302.
If Jonny wins he will move up to 330, if he loses he will move up to 346. He's currently ranked 373.
This is Jamie's 1st 15K title [he'd reached two finals earlier this year in Australia and New Zealand]. It's his 4th futures title [he won in Mexico and Bolton in 2005 and in Greece earlier this year].
Jamie's next tournament will be a 75K challenger in Sacramento, he'll have to qualify but will be seeded in the qualies which begin next Saturday. After that he's playing the Calabasas challenger before heading back to GB for the Nottingham challenger. In the off season I believe that he's heading to the States to spend quite a bit of time training there and he's also planning to spend some weeks at Brad Gilbert's ranch, working with him. It'll be good warm weather training for Australia as with a ranking of 270-290 he should make the Aussie Open qualies but.
Well done to Jamie, quite the result there in the final against an in-form player this week. Pity it was another Brit he had to beat, oh well one of them had to lose. Well being biased I'm glad it wasn't Jamie that lost
