Well Tim's started the week up a couple of places, as Andreev continues losing all of his points from last year, and Horna also drops. 


Other losers are: Gicquel, Monaco, Seppi and Sanguinetti.


Over to Imoen, to let us know where Tim can get to this week, and who to watch out for

Well, 14 different players can overtake this week. So pins into all of them please! Like last week, I'll look at who meet whom when and therefore the maximum number of places Tim can lose after the first round. The list is:


Ramirez Hidalgo, Horna, Kohlschrieber, Bracciali, Phau, Safin, Becker, Moodie, Seppi, Monaco, Sanguinetti, Garcia-Lopez, Hajek, Lopez.

If Tim loses first round he won't gain any points or places.


If he loses second round he won't gain any points or places.


If he loses in the quarters, he will gain 15points and will definitely gain 2 places, and possibly another if Lee loses before the quarters.


If he loses in the semis, he will gain a further 35points and will definitely gain another 2 places, and possibly a third if Mayer loses before the quarters.


If he loses in the final, he will gain a further 45 points and will definitely gain a further 3 places, and possibly 3 more if Mathieu loses before the semis and Volandri before the quarters and Benneteau doesn't go beyond the first round.


If he wins in the final, he will gain an extra 55 points and will definitely gain another 3 places, and possibly a further 4 places if Srichaphan goes out before the semis, Almagro doesn't get to the quarters, Simon doesn't reach the semis and Ginepri can't get further than the second round.


So by winning, Tim would gain a maximum of 19 places and a minimum of 10. But he won't gain any at all unless he reaches the quarters.

Ramirez Hidalgo won and passed Tim, but Horna went out

Phau won also but is not a danger quite yet.

Edit: hastily adds that the smiley was for Horna going out and not Ram Hid overtaking Tim. . .

The table's updated. Mathieu, Lee, Bracciali, Garcia- Lopez & Lopez  are all knocked out.


Just Ram Ham, Phau, Beker, Safin, Moodie and Hajek left.


Over to Imoen: What happens if Tim wins tomorrow? Who can overtake if Boggo wins the battle of the Brits?

If Tim wins tomorrow he will move to 685 points and gain 3 places, 4 if Ram Ham loses for us. So will either be at 56 or 55.


If Tim loses tomorrow he faces threats from:


Phau who can overtake by reaching the final of mumbai


Safin who can overtake by winning in Bankok


Becker who can overtake by winning in Bankok


Moodie who can overtake by winning in Mumbai


Hajek who can overtake by winning in Palmero


So tim can lose a maximum of 4 places to fall to 62 in the world, a drop of three on last week.

Great work again, ty.  I really fancy Tim getting to the Semis this week after his win against Andy.  I'd love to see who he will face, but I feel this could be a good week for him.

Tim's at 55! That's 4 up on the week so far.


I've had to shift the table up 5 places  - people like Bjorkman and Volandri come into view.


I couldn't be bothered to wait for Volandri's result - he's into the third set against Roitman now.


Edit: Volandri won, and is now off the top of the table


Ram Ham, Phau & Safin  advance. Becker, Moodie and Hajek go out.


Only Phau & Safin are left behind Tim now.


Over to Imoen - What's possible now??

If Tim wins today he will move up to 720 points, which is currently 51 in the rankings. He could then lose a place to Ram Ham.


If Tim loses today he could be overtaken by:


Phau, if he wins in Mumbai.


So worst case if Tim loses is a drop of one place to 56.


Best case, no change at 55.


So pins into Phau and Ram Ham please!

I read or heard somewhere that Tim's ranking objective is to be seeded at the Aussie open. This is a tall order, buthough he has very few points to defend.  To achieve his objective though, he will have to enter qualifying for Madrid and Paris as the cut for those tournaments is around 30.  Is he really going to lower himself and qualify?  When did Tim last enter Qualies for anything?

Tim & Phau go out.


Safin and Lapentti  advance - sudden flashbacks to 2002 or so??? Lapentti has been on fire this last couple of weeks.


Safin  is the one remaining threat.
