RE: Davis Cup day 1: Rusedski v Stakhovsky

they just said, no tb in the decider.

a horrible game to watch (ie i have no fingernails left, it's a miracle I can still type).

equal parts ues and winners until we get to 30-40. Mtach point. first serve into the net. Second serve was AMAZING, right on the line, loads of spin, S could hardly touch it. really brave from Greg on mp. This was followed up by two long rallies, greg working S in each until the opening was there for the winner. Game GB! phew!!!

now, then longer this match lasts, the less likely Greg is to win, so he needs to break here, especially as he's serving second so a slip on his serve and its over.

S just holds on for 6-5. S led 30-0 but Greg pulled it back and had a bp at 30-40. Unfortunately S thrashed away a winner off a short ball and won two long rallies, the final one with a dropshot, to win it

with the exception of a second serve ace and a double fault, every point that game the ball ended in the net.

S held to deuce. 6-5. another vital hold needed from Greg.

just as an aside, the ball kids are really cute, they are all very young (well small anyway) and are wearing grey sweatshirts that are about 3 sizes too big!

gre holds to 30, nice and quickly as well. He should have the momentum going into this next game, hopeully he can convert that into a break.

S holds to 15 for 7-6.

Short return and S attacked a backhand and got into the net and Greg netted a fh attempted pass - 15-0

15-15: S whipped a bh down the line, great slice from R, keeping the ball low, S had to play a difficult low volley which he netted

30-15: S dominated from side to side with the fh, finishing with a winner down the line

40-15: Drop shot, R got it but netted

7-6: ace from S out wide

s's turn to hold to 15.

both players are blowing hot and cold at the moment, mixing outright winners with loads of ues. i think it's safe to say that tiredness and nerves are playing their parts in that.

greg holds to 30. he really looked in control of that game and only a couple of ues gave S any points.

his first serve has also improved (ie it's going in now!) and that's helping a lot.

at 15-0 S sends a realatively simple volley long, serves a double and then nets in a rally. giving Greg two break points, he takes the first as once again S makes the ue in the baseline rally.

8-7 to Greg, serving for the match.

guess what just happened

love service hold from Greg, four great first serves and S forced into the error each time.

Great Britain leads 1-0.

16 63 57 64 97.

I'm very glad I was proven wrong, Greg played excellently. I still hope that he doesn't play the doubles but i no longer think that he would collapse after the first point.

If it is his last match it's a nice way to go.

I don't think that there is any chance of him playing doubles. I am convinced that Delgado was brought into the squad in order to play the doubles with Andy.

are u sure, after this marathon match he might. remeber vs morocco he had to go onto a drip, although i think it wont be that hot out there which is a bonus.

that's true, i still don't think he would last a full match, even if it was only three sets long but I think he would do slightly better than i initially thoough. i'd forgotten morocco. at the end of the match he didn't look too tired, but mid-way through he looked exhausted, thinking about it i reckon he ran on pretty much pure adrenaline for the last set and a half so perhaps you're right.
