RE: ATP Mumbai

Fantastic win for James !

I make it that the win puts him in the top 350 but I may be wrong, I'm off to play tennis now but I look forward to reading Bethan's excellent analysis of how close I am when I get back

I think that the last time we had 4 Brits playing ATPs in the same week [barring the slams] was in 2001 when Henman, Rusedski, Lee and Delgado [both qualifiers] played TMS Toronto.

I presume you meant overseas UBF?

I remember bloomers and delgado playing at washington in 2005, along with tim and greg - however they were both in as LL's so doesn't really count!

great win for james - will have a good chance if bopanna can beat moodie.  think its a possiblity as moodie coming in from the cold - both figuratively and literally i imagine!

The last time we had 4 Brits in ATP action overseas (excl. slams), was in February this year, when Big Arvs had his run to the quarter-finals in Rotterdam, and Tim & Greg both lost in the second round. And Andy got to the quarter-finals in Memphis.

(though Arvind was a LL too!)

Previous to that it was the week of 24/10/2005, where -

In St Petersburg, Greg got to QFs.
And in Basel, Alan Mackin lost in 1st round to Baghdatis, and Andy beat Tim in round 1, and went on to reach to QFs.

(Alan was a LL!)

And in the week of 01/08/2005, as goldenboy said, we had Tim, Greg, Bloomers & Jamie Delgado in action in Washington.  Plus Alan Mackin in Sopot.
Only Greg won a match.
(Bloomers, Jamie and Alan were all LLs)

Speaking after his win Auckland said
“It was a great result for me today. It’s the first time I’ve qualified for an ATP event so to make use of the draw was very satisfying. Although I haven’t been playing my best tennis, I’m focusing really well and improving with each match.”

James gains 16 points so far which should take him up to approx 366

His rd1 doubles match will be on Wednesday so Delgado will have an extra day to recover from the jetlag.

Not quite the top 350 unfortunately, but if he manages to win his second round he'll be on 115 points which is about 313 so hopefully he can do that.

Is this the same Nathan Rooney who is now GB 400m runner? I heard the lad was a tennis player as well.
