The tournament starts on Monday 25th September so as happened last year, Andy will be making the difficult transistion from European clay to fast indoor hard courts.
Hopefully GB can wrap up the Ukraine tie in 2 days so that Andy can fly to Bangkok earlier on the Sunday, giving him more time to recover from the jetlag.
Last year Andy relished playing in front of the passionate and excitable Thai crowd, there was a real buzz in the stadium which really spurred him on in his epic victories over Ginepri and Srichaphan when he came back from losing the 1st set both times.
Andy has his biggest points haul of the autumn season to defend here, having reached the 2005 final. It's a massive boost that Federer isn't returning to defend his title.

I agree. Blake, Baghdatis and Hewitt will be the biggest threats. Ljubicic is a bit off-form at the moment, so although he beat Andy indoors earlier this year in Zagreb I'd be confident of Andy winning if they met again this week.
Blake is one of the best in the world at hitting return winners and absolutely mashed Andy's 2nd serve in Hamburg this year but from what I've seen, Andy is placing his 2nd serves so much better since he's been working with Brad which should make it a much closer match should they meet again. In Hamburg, although Andy broke Blake several times, every Murray 2nd serve was right into the Blake hitting zone and he was hitting winners virtually at will.
I'm sure that Andy can trouble Baghdatis if he plays well and he's got good memories of beating Hewitt before Srichaphan is the dark horse for the tournament, he's going to be very tricky to beat in front of home fans, he's a national hero in Thailand and always has a huge support base watching him in Bangkok.
Hopefully Tim gets a decent draw for once, he hasn't had one since the clay court season

Only a year ago we were thrilled when he was seeded in Challengers. . .
Are the seedings done on the players' current positions in the rankings or on their positions in the entry list ? It'll be superb news for Andy if he is seeded 4th, it'll mean that he avoids the likes of Blake and Baghdatis until the semis.

Im sure the ATP will want to try and honour their contracts with all the media, sponsors etc....it also seems at to be a peaceful situation at present...the 'new government' will want things to carry on at things are.....tourism is key to Thailands prosperity and international sporting events will give creditibility to the government / nation....so lets wait and see.
Security is vital to the players so if they can get guarantees from the authorities then it could well go ahead. If there are still tanks surrounding Bangkok and limited movement in and around airports then it would be curtains for the event IMO !
I agree, if things remain peaceful and are quickly resolved then I think it will go ahead, but any uncertainty to player safety and i doubt it'll happen.
If they did stop the tournament, what would happen? Would they play elsewhere, or would everyone who entered have to take a week out, potentially missing out on vital ranking and race points? (just out of curiousity)
