Oops !!!

Started making my preview post just before seagull posted the results

Fantastic win for David Brewer, that's one of his best results for some time He's really hit form here, absolutely thrashed Josh Milton in the qualies aswell.

Shame Dan Evans wasn't able to get his first point but he did well taking a set off Burn.

Rob Searle's result is disappointing, I really thought he would win as Fischer is a clay-courter, but then again the hard courts in Nottingham aren't particularly fast. Maybe Searle would have had a better chance indoors.

That's a shocker of a result for Bloomers but Rushby can be very dangerous when he's on form, he can hit a lot of big winners which is the sort of play which can hurt Bloomfield who's mainly just consistent from the baseline. Rushby has beaten Jonny Marray, Andy Kennaugh and Neil Bamford very convincingly this year and he's given Goodall several very close matches. He's one of those players who blows hot and cold, sometimes from one set to another. When he's playing poorly he makes a lot of silly errors and gets very down on himself.

Maybe Bloomers is feeling ill, I mean last week he was convinced that the indoor courts in Orleans smelt like grass even though no one else agreed with him !

Bloomers not playing in Notts next week so a little strange he turned up for this one and declined to play a Challenger - maybe he thought he would be in the DC squad?

I think it's most likely to do with the fact that all the European challengers this week are on clay and he'd rather play a futures than play on the nasty red stuff !

Bloomers is travelling with Martin Lee and Arvind Parmar to the Grenoble challenger next week. Lee has made the main draw, Parmar is playing qualies and Richard is 2nd on the alts list so there's a good chance he'll make the main draw too.

Latest result:

Thomas Greenland [GB] bt Ross Connolly [GB] 6-3, 6-2

I didn't expect that, I thought Ross would win. Congrats to Thomas who's now likely to face Martin Lee in rd2. I think that either his 2nd or 3rd ranking point.

I phoned the tournament office for this result, all other matches are on court.

Two more results:

Rameez Junaid (Aus) bt Matthew Taylor (Gbr) 6-4 7-6 (7-3)

Matthew Illingworth (Gbr) bt Matt Lowe (Gbr) 6-2 4-6 6-2

Matt did well to give Junaid such a close match, considering the Aussie is top 400

I thought King Turner was a dangerous floater so I for one am glad he's lost!

The rest of the day's results:

Martin Lee [GB][1] bt Kyle Brassington [GB] 6-0, 6-0

Lee Childs [GB][7] bt Dan Cox [GB] 6-4, 6-4

Neil Bamford [GB] bt Richard Irwin [GB] 6-7[1], 6-4, 6-0

Jonny Marray [GB] [8] bt Armin Sanbichler [Aut] 6-4, 7-6[4]

Alex Slabinsky [GB] bt Ed Allinson [GB][LL] 6-2, 6-0 :

Wow, Martin Lee really rammed home his superiority over Brassington there, that's pretty impressive to double bagel him, considering that Brassington beat Irwin yesterday. You have to feel for Brassington though, he won through 3 rounds of qualifying for the first time in his career and he's sent packing in less than an hour. Fairly close match between Childs and Cox, I don't think we could have expected Dan to beat Childs given the form Childs has been in, in France, he did well to win 8 games. Great win for Jonny Marray, no problems in adjusting to the outdoor hard courts there. He faces Bamford in rd2. Slabba was a little lucky in that Jonathan Chu withdrew but Allinson has a massive serve and beat him indoors at the end of July so 2 and 0 is a really impressive scoreline.

Just realised no Andy Kennaugh in this event...looks like he did not fancy the around the world trip from down under just for a GB futures

Neither is Chris Eaton.  He and Kennaugh seems to follow each other round the world.

I'm pleased for Tom Rushby.  He's still only 20.
Beating Bloomers is a massive scalp.
And he reached the final of F10 in July.
He seems to be coming good.

I did manage to get down for about 50 mins today, but all 8 courts had womens' matches on. I did catch the beginning of Matt Taylor's match. He was 2 breaks down at 0-3 when i left, so he must have got back into it judging by the score line.
So no Slabba to report on. I hope to go again on Thursday.
As i was leaving it turned out i was parked next to Bloomer's mini. i didn't know his score at the time, so glad i didn't wish him luck or anything stupid like that. He didn't look ill though, probably pleased to be leaving.

Can't you at least pretend to be a little upset that a Brit lost so easily?

Well done to Alex though, a great win, hopefully he can go quite far this week and get into some form. What are his plans for the next few weeks?

Haha Alex is just playing the GB futures and challengers for the rest of this year, he isn't planning to go abroad at all, there are tournaments in GB for all the rest of the season bar two weeks.

Report of Slabinsky-Allinson and rd2 preview for Slabinsky-Junaid with quotes from Alex is now up at: http://www.freewebs.com/alexslabinsky

I asked Alex about Cox and Evans, he says he rates them highly, he speaks to Cox a lot. He said they are both very solid players with big futures.

Yeah it's taken him a couple of years but it looks like he's starting to realise his potential, he's had some breakthrough results this year. He's got a decent chance of making another semi now in this form

What did you think of Junaid ? Alex watched some of his match v Taylor and said that he's just a very solid player, single-handed backhand, no really big weapons in his game but just very, very solid as you'd expect of a top 400 player. I reckon Alex should have a chance as Junaid got pushed so close by an unranked qualifier, Alex'll need to serve well, hopefully it's less windy today.
