Hopefully Amanda can close out her match, she's got 0-15 on the German's serve when they restart.
Katie will face 4th seed Virginie Pichet from France in the quarters. Pichet dropped a set in rd1 to a lucky loser and another in rd2 to a Spanish wildcard. She's ranked 188 with a career high of 120 reached in 2004. Before this tournament she'd lost 6 straight matches. Her best results this year came in Jan and Feb on indoor hard when she reached a 25k final and won two 10ks in Tipton and Grenoble.
The bad news is that unfortunately Amanda's opponent won 3 straight games on the restart to win 2-6, 6-4, 7-5
However, the good news is that Katie reached the semis with a marathon 7-6[7], 7-6[5] win over Virginie Pichet
Katie now faces German Angelique Kerber in the semis, an 18 year old ranked 417 with a career best of 238 reached last October. She's been on something of a giant-killing run in this tournament, beating the 2nd seed 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 and then beating Amanda's conqueror 6-4, 1-6, 7-6[5]. Kerber only got into this tournament through a SE won by reached a 25k semi last week. She's been out injured for 6 months since February, which was a shame for her, having won a 25k then. They've played once before: Katie won 6-4, 6-0 in a 25K in Jersey back in 2004.
Katie's already guaranteed to move up 20 places from 245 to 225 and if she reaches the final, she'll move up to 219.
A fantastic win for Katie against an opponent who has outplayed several much highly rated players this week including the 2nd seed. Great fightback after losing the first set ! Katie's in her 2nd singles final of the year [she made the 25K final in Changsha at the start of August]. This will take her up 26 places to 219. If she wins the final, she'll move up to 210.
In the final she plays France's Olivia Sanchez [wr: 263]. Sanchez beat the 8th seed Timotic 1-6, 6-3, 6-1 in rd2, Mel South's conqueror Cirstea - 6-3, 6-4 in the quarters and in the semis she beat a Spanish qualifier 2-6, 6-3, 7-6[5]. From her results Sanchez seems something of a clay-courter, this year's she's made a 50K final, semis in a 75K and a 25K and two 10K finals. All those tournaments were on clay.
Katie already has earned some silverware this week. Today she and Sorana Cirstea won the doubles final beating Gaelle Widmer and Celine Cattaneo 6-4, 6-4. After the final Katie said “At the start of the week I thought the doubles draw was wide open and that we had a chance of winning the event.”

As posted above, she'll definately move up to 219, if she wins the final she'll move up to 210.
sorry, I did read it just didn't take that in, I read it a while ago and only posted the question a few minutes ago. Honest. I love your long posts they always give great insight into what to expect in the results. besides if i hadn't read it how would i know they'd won the doubles?

Ok that's good, I was a little worried but I'm feeling more reassured now.
Unfortunately Sanchez won the final 6-7[7], 6-4, 6-4
