Well done to Boggo for 2 good wins so far this week against Falla and Sluiter.

Sorry to be rude but I'd just have to say get it right up you Lloydy as if you can't pick Boggo for the Davis Cup in April you are blind as a bat

Alex surely has to be in prime contention for a DC place next April now, having beaten his probable first day opponent in 3 sets on a similar surface to the one which will be used. Alex would not only have a psychological edge over Sluiter going into the match but this win would surely also give him extra confidence knowing that he'd won such a close match a few months before against the Dutchman.

However, knowing Lloyd, it'll be Rusedski lining up against Sluiter next April

when is the vienna qualies start? saturday or sunday, its only 2 matches so they may play over sun/mon, in some ways it would be a shame if he misses out as i think he would have a great chance to qualify. I think rennes would be the only sensible choice otherwise, but he may just take a weeks rest if he does well here.

Rennes would be the only option for Alex next week if he beats Vliegen. I can't see him heading to Barcelona and switching to the nasty red stuff Alex would be 7th seed in Rennes and on this form, he'd be a big favourite for the title, it'd be a very handy 50 pts !

Match report on Belgian website!!!!!!!! Can anyone translate?

Babelfish says "The briton Bogdanovic has itself after a tense fight as 2e placed for the kwartfinale at the cost of 5e the range head Raymond sluiter. In its kwartfinale Bogdanovic end up Friday against a belgian: Wauters or flies."

Hope that helps! .  I think it means there's a chance Boggo's playing an army of flies on Friday.

I love these free online translations ! So Vliegen translates as flies in english !!

i dont understand why players like viligen and rochus are playing challengers, while theres plenty at stake in top ATPs! they both top 50 players, had they been below top 50, then i'll understand. if murray was to play in the surbiton trophy, i'll be surprised, because he better than that, even though he may be paid 2 play in challengers like the belgians.
BTW, i think its only belgians who play in their own home challengers.

I think it's pretty understandable, Belgium doesn't have an ATP tournament unfortunately so this challenger is the the biggest tournament in Belgium and it does get quite a few spectators compared to British challengers. For the Rochus' and Vliegen, this is their only chance to play in front of their home crowd [Malisse usually plays aswell] all year apart from Davis Cup ties. I understand that they are big names in Belgium and as there's almost always an all-Belgian final it's great for the fans.

If Surbiton was the biggest tournament in Britain, I'm sure that Murray would probably play there if he wasn't still involved at Roland Garros. As it is Rusedski regularly plays there [and bizarrely never does particularly well by his standards !! Boggo is the only Brit ever to have reached the final there, given Rusedski's success on grass - 5 ATP titles I think, you would have thought that he'd have won Surbiton at least twice !]

Most countries with players in the top 100, do have an ATP tournament, Belgium is an exception and Cyprus is aswell come to think of it [Baghdatis would have to play a futures to compete in front of his home crowd ]

fair enough. but what i dont get is why tournie officers look at ATP and WTA combined. i dont see any reason why the ATP cant play a tourner in belguim when the WTA have hasslet and antwerp as their tournies. hopefully, the ATP are able to relocate one of the french tournies to belgium, because they have got too many tournaments, behind the USA.

I agree, I think that would be a lot fairer, there are so many in France and Spain, it gives their young upcoming players so many more opportunities to compete at ATP level - Gael Monfils was able to play ATPs nearly all year even though he was ranked outside the top 200 !

Rusedski played Surbiton to help get ready for Wimbledon.  I understand that.  Wimbledon really was Greg's year although he did much better at the US Open esp in 1997.  I really don't have a problem with what the Rochus boys are doing and what Greg did.  Rochus wants to play in front of his home supporters, Greg wanted to get off the clay and get used to the grass.

Having said all that, boy I wish that either Tim or Greg had won at least a Wimbledon or a Queens title.  Back when they burst on the scene and both got to the quarters in 97 I was so sure that one if not both of them would win Wimbledon.  It makes me sad that Tim didn't win one and that Greg didn't go further than 1997's Wimbledon.

Boggo's competitor tomorrow isn't going to be Christophe Vliegen after all:

Stefan Wauters (WR not very high) just beat Vliegen 67 63 76

So Alex has got a great chance of getting through to the semis now!!

Kristof(think how u spell it!) Vliegen. did he have a bye and then played in the 2nd rd? looks like boggo got a better chance than the semis (WINNER!). just hope his decision to not enter qualies for Vienna backfires.

No, in the first round Vliegen played somebody called Joseph Sirianni of Australia.

To win the entire tournament, Boggo would probably have to beat a certain Ollie Rochus. . .but then, if Wauters can beat Vliegen, who knows? Go Boggo!

boggo plays around 3.30pm belgium time. really good chance here, but he mustn't take it for granted to be a done deal, waulters obviusly is playing brillinatly, maybe he is a big server? 2 tb's wins often suggest that dont they. i wionder if there will be repirts of the vilgen match around.

i think i'll hedge my bets and say to win this tournie, alex would have to beat a certain rochus! imagine the belgians would be loving a battle of the bro's if they both reach the semis!

interestingly, the younger brother (olivier) leads the h2h 2-1, having won at wimbledon and palermo, however christophe won their first encounter, on a challenger on belgian soil in 1999!

alex has a great chance of reaching the semis - would be v disappointed now if he loses today!

if i'm reading it right waulters, prior to mons, was on a 10 match losing streak, so something has clikced this week.

hopefully with alex having the day off and waulters having such a tough late night match he may be a bit fatigued.

yeah i think its important that alex starts strongly and can subdue the crowd - think the wauters would only win if he gets all inspired with the crowd behind him so hopefully alex can quell that from the off!
