Stoppini serving:

0-15

0-30: Go Jonny !!! A break here would seal things

0-40: That marathon last game appears to have broken Stoppini

Hang on it's just gone back to 0-30

Oh well, doesn't matter, the important thing is that Jonny's broken again and leads 6-3, 5-1 !!!! Superb

I thought Stoppini was going to be tough but he's just raced through this one

Deuce

Ad Stoppini

Game

6-3, 5-2*

Good job Jonny got that 2nd break, however, Stoppini's surely just prolonging the inevitable

Think Jonny must have been broken, it's 5-2 in the final set

Yes, unfortunately he missed a match point in that game. Hopefully he can break now and avoid having to go through the extra tension of trying to serve it out again, knowing that he's missed match point.

I make it that Jonny will make 34 points from his success so far pushing him back up to around 371 from his current low position of 488.

He deserves to be back in the top 250 where he belongs. Been bad year for some players that started in the top 250/300 area - Sherwood, Hilton, Bloomfield, Smith, Makin, Delgado etc

We need these players back in them ranges to push on into the top 200 and then higher tournaments.

So, two matches for Jonny to play tomorrow, the singles semi and the doubles semi

Lets hope Mackin can join him, it's ages since there have been two Brits in the semis of an overseas challenger.

Some stats:

This is the first time that Jonny has made the semis of a challenger since the Nottingham Challenger on outdoor hard in April 2005, the last time he made the semis of an overseas challenger was on indoor carpet in Kyoto in March 2005.

The last time a British player made the semis of an overseas challenger was Bloomfield in Dublin in June

The last time there were two Brits in the semis of a challenger was in Nottingham in July 2005 when Boggo and Mark Hilton made the final.

great win by jonny, who will he play next> i cant rember, i assume rochus - thats would be a fanttastic oppourtiy as these top high seeds are as immune as they'd like to belive in challnger (rember bergamo 2 top 50 players going out in the semis)

shame he couldnt take it at 1ts try but its a huge pressure point and natural to get tight.

i think this also shows, what many feel alex needs to improve on, he is too 1 dimensional, and only seems to have  plan A and no specific opponent plan, if game A works well, then alex can trouble all players up to the top 50, but if its not working he doesnt have anyhting to swap too.

Well done to Jonny, excellent result.

Thanks for the updates UFF, can you (or someone else) provide them for Mackin's match as well, as I'm out this evening.

Come on Mackin!
