i had a quick look at the race and i think Andy has an outside chance of making the masters cup especially if there are some withdrawals.
here are the standings before the US Open
1 Federer, Roger (SUI) 1124 2 Nadal, Rafael (ESP) 775 3 Ljubicic, Ivan (CRO) 415 4 Nalbandian, David (ARG) 363 5 Robredo, Tommy (ESP) 344 6 Baghdatis, Marcos (CYP) 328 = Davydenko, Nikolay (RUS) 328 8 Ancic, Mario (CRO) 318 9 Blake, James (USA) 315 10 Roddick, Andy (USA)294 11 Ferrer, David (ESP) 270 12 Haas, Tommy (GER) 268 = Stepanek, Radek (CZE) 268 14 Gonzalez, Fernando (CHI) 265 15 Nieminen, Jarkko (FIN) 249 16 Berdych, Tomas (CZE) 214 = Murray, Andy (GBR) 214 18 Hewitt, Lleyton (AUS) 213
---------------------- 46 Henman, Tim (GBR) 120
So we need Berdych, Haas, Hewitt, Roddick and Blake to lose as soon as possible at the US Open.
I think he can sneak it but a lot will depend on how he gets on at Madrid and Paris. If only he had won a few matches at the french and australian open, he would have been up there already...
i think andy will be ranked between 10-12 come monday's ATP Race. if there was to be withdrawals, then i think ancic will struggle to make the masters cup leaving andy a big chance to do some damage at the remaining masters. i think hes willing to give it a go since he reported on the Beeb, that hes making the masters cup as one of the goals for the indoor season. With federer not at bangok, murray got a good chance of defending his points and win the event! if he wins 2 tournies and get to QFs/SFs at the tournies he has entered, then he got a high chance of getting in!
