Its worth noting that Mathieu's form on hard court has been dreadful.  He has won some matches on clay, including a couple of rounds at the French, but the last time he won on a surface other than clay was in  Indian Wells at the start of March.  He was knocked out in the first round of Queens, Nottingham, Wimbledon, Gstaad, Totonto and Cincinatti. He won a single round on clay in Amerfoort.  Mathieu will certainly be somehat lacking in confidence!

Still Mathieu is a good player when he puts his mind to it, Josh may have his work cut out here. He is playing well, though, so the best of luck to him - Mathieu is not known for being mentally strong, Josh may have an advantage there.

All in all this isn't a bad draw for Josh. It will be tough but he has a chance.

I like tie breakers at the end of the fifth set.....just hate to see a player on court for far too long in the heat of NYC.

I'm sure Josh could win this match, but he'll have to play well out of his skin to do so no matter how out of form Mathieu is. But I'll still go for Josh in 5 sets

Josh puts the first bit of pressure on a server by going 15-30 up, but fails to capitalise. Mathieu moves to 3-2.


Seems like Josh is serving well though, won the first game to 15, the second to love. Hope he can keep that up.


Unfortunately there are no match stats on this court so have no idea of how either are playing, just the score.

another hold to 15. 3-3. Doesn't look like nerves are playing a part so far, hope it continues, I really need Josh to win for my predictions!
