Lee v Ulihrach

This will be Martin's 3rd match against the 31 year old Czech clay-court specialist Bohdan Ulihrach who's ranked 750 but is playing with a protected ranking of 139. His career high was 22, reached back in 1997.

Ulihrach won 6-4, 7-6 on indoor carpet in rd1 of ATP Battersea, London in 1998 and he also won in rd1 of TMS Toronto in 2001, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 after Martin had come through qualifying.

Ulihrach made his return to the tour in May this year and it was a successful one, reaching the quarters of the Ostrava challenger on clay. He didn't play again for over a month before losing in rd2 of a clay challenger in Germany and then he lost in qualies for an ATP clay event in Holland at the start of July. He'll be pretty rusty having not played any of the American outdoor hard tournaments.

I'm predicting Martin to win in 2. Unfortunately if he does win, top seeded Canadian Frank Dancevic is a likely rd2 opponent.

Incidentally, the last time Martin played US Open qualies was in 2003, when he lost in rd2, playing off a protected ranking. In 2001 he qualified for the main draw before losing to Tommy Haas in rd1.

0-15 on the Ulihrach serve.

Bohdan is a leftie, don't know much else about his game. Can anyone watching him when he was on the ATP tour a few years back ?

Ad Ulihrach

The live scores page with the black flashing boxes doesn't work for me as it doesn't update. Luckily there's an emergency scores page which works but you have to refresh the page constantly.

Ulihrach holds after a struggle for 1-1

Now Martin's down 15-30 in his serve

Ulihrach breaks for 2-1 Luckily though, with him being a clay-courter he doesn't have a massive serve so Martin should have chances to break back in this set

Ulihrach held for 3-1 and Martin's just held for 3-2.

Martin has a chance now on the Czech's serve, he's got 30-30

Lee had chances in that last game but Ulihrach held on for 4-2

Martin has held for 4-3 and he's now pressurizing again on the Czech's serve and has 30-30

Martin had more chances in that last game but again they escaped him and Bohdan held on for 5-3.

Hopefully he can hold easily here, and force Bohdan to serve the set out and hopefully he gets a little tense. Martin's been holding so easily in this set apart from that 1 game, it'll be annoying if it costs him the set as apart from that he's been the dominant player, with quite a few break back chances.

Martin looked down and out at 0-2 second set but has fought back to two all and deuce on Bohdan's serve.

Martin now leads 5-3

A break here would be nice so he serves 1st in the 3rd.

Ulihrach is up 40-30
