Andy's competitors week 34

Thought I'd open up this thread. RobC will you post up the table this week as I'm going away until Thursday and won't be able to update it.

Having had a quick look at the draw for New Haven, Andy is threatened from behind by only two people, Jose Acasuso and Fernando Verdasco both of whom must win to overtake, so the worst case for Andy is a drop of one place to 20th!!

So, for spare pins turn your attention to those above him in the rankings so that they don't get any further ahead, Nieminen and Ferrer are both playing and above them, Baghdatis, Davydenko and Blake but they are out of reach unless Andy wins the US open so don't worry too much about them (or, do depends on how optimistic your feeling!)

As Imoen has said, we have until Sunday to get rid of Verdasco & Acasuso.  Further, as this is a 48 -strong field, and all of Andy's competitors have first round byes, we probably won't see any in action until Tuesday at the earliest.

The only error that i can see is that Chela IS playing this week. Think he has a bye in the first round at new haven

Nope - they're from the Mons Challenger!  USO gave Andy 50 points - 35 for R2 and 15 for qualifying.  Obviously these are defended next week. I think you only defend the USO qualies points this week if you didn't progress to the main draw.

No change to the table this morning - all of Andy's competitors had byes in the first round.

Playing today, Acasuso  takes on Tim threat Mahut at 10am (3pm UK), Verdasco plays Benneteau second up.

Hopefully Greg can get rid of Andy's US Open target, Niemenen, and Mardy Fish can take out Ferrer.

Rochus, Monfils, Calleri, Bjorkman, Malisse, Chela (vs Tim threat Seppi) and Massu are all also playing, but can't overtake this week

Table updated. All of Andy's competitors who played won today.

Worst case is still a drop of a place if Verdasco or  Acasuso win the tournament.

Acasuso beat Mahut and Verdasco beat Benneteau.

Niemenen  beat Greg and Ferrer saw off Mardy Fish.

The only bright spot for Andy was Bjorkman's withdrawal

The court to watch is Court 2, where Acasuso  takes on Chela  at 11, then Verdasco takes on Tim threat Melzer.

Over on court 1, Ferrer faces Calleri before Niemenen faces Massu.

Rochus vs Monfils, Malisse(vs Tim competitor Ramirez- Hidalgo) are the other matches for the players on the table.
