Melanie, Sarah and Katie will be making their US Open qualies debuts this week.
Anne has played once before in New York, she made the final round of the qualies in 2003, losing in the final round to the experienced Canadian Maureen Drake 7-5, 6-1. She missed 2004 and 2005 due to injury
Stephanie Cohen Aloro ranked 143 (has been as high as 61 after US Open 2003), aged 23. This doesn't look good. BUT shes lost her last three first rounds in challengers, so its possible for in form Sarah Borwell.
Kyra Nagy is 28 from Hungary. She is ranked 124 with her highest 122 last month so in form of her life I suppose. Won Rome challenger in July beating Ruutel and Cornet but lost first round next tournament and hasn't played for 3 weeks.
Youlia Fedossova is 18 from France. Ranked 263 with high of 251. Been losing a lot recently. Lost to Juilie Bone in Felixstowe. Anne should win this.
Ashley Weinhold is an American wildcard, ranked 571. Shes 17 and won a 10K in Texas in early July. Shes ranked 75 in juniors. Katie has a very good chance of reaching round 2 here.
They've all got a great chance, its just Anne im worried about, sometimes she can be hot and cold, let hope she can build her good performances she has shown on american challengers
Anne must be warming up now, match is yet to appear on the scoreboard.
She's definately got the best chance of qualifying of all the Brits. I can't see her rd1 opponent causing her too many problems, Anne always tends to raise her game for GS qualies with the exception of the Aussie Open.
As Johnny said, Fedossova has been struggling recently. I reckon Anne will win comfortably in 2. The other seed in Anne's section is the 8th seed Lilia Osterloh, but Anne beat her at Surbiton this year.
Osterloh's in a very close rd1 match at the moment with Angela Haynes it's 1 set all
