Alan was surprisingly taken to 3 sets by Flock considering that there's about 600 places between them in the rankings.
After being outplayed in the 1st set Alan took the 2nd and 3rd sets quite easily to win: 2-6, 6-2, 6-2.
Alan now plays 19 year old French left-hander Jonathan Dasnieres De Viegy in rd2. The Frenchman is ranked 578 and had a comfortable rd1 victory, 6-2, 6-2 over Serbia's Peter Popovic [ranked 500]. He's had a poor run recently though, apart from a futures quarter-final on clay in Germany at the start of August. The match will take place tomorrow
Alan must be pretty gutted after losing such a marathon match, those sort of defeats must be tough to take.
It was a shame as before this tournament his opponent's recent form had been quite poor, however the German seems to have found form here, he had a good win over Todero in rd1 [who's scored wins over the likes of Boggo in the past].
This week's results will move Alan up to about 363 from 370. Hopefully he can go further in Holland F5
