Anyone know where Morgan Philipps is? Haven't seen his name on here for a couple of weeks!

Last week [the week of the Vancouver Challenger and ATP Washington], he reached the quarters of Spain F25 and as a result he reached a career high ranking of 601.

He was down for Spain F26 this week initially but withdrew at the start of August to play Italy F27 this week as it's a 15K futures event. However, he withdrew from that on August 10th and so will be taking this week off aswell.

I have a feeling he might have sustained an injury during his quarter-final loss in Spain F25: 6-0, 0-6, 4-6 - that would explain the bizarre scoreline. If so, I hope it's not too serious.

He was born in 1984, is from Middlesex and has an LTA rating of 3.2. This is his 16th attempt at Futures qualifying in the last 6 years, the last 9 having been in Spain. He's never won a set before and even got double-bagelled by an unranked Spaniard back in April, so this win this weekend is huge for him.

For the LTA info, see http://www.lta.org.uk/Search/PlayerSearch/?BSMGuid=cbc9ac5f-b7fe-4fba-afe6-9c4de946801f, for the rest see ITF.

He's doing pretty well then!

Will these two results affect his LTA rating or is that only British tournaments?

3.2 is quite high compared to some of the others that have been flagged up on these pages trying to qualify in Turkey and Romania etc... Maybe he has half a chance. But at 22 already I suppose maybe not.

3.2's a really quality LTA rating, I did think that as in the case of Adam Lownsbrough and co, the fact that he's played all these overseas futures events may have resulted in inflating his LTA rating so that it's higher than his actual standard.

However, although he hasn't played any LTA tournaments since 2004, that year he played several British tour events and reached several quarter-finals so the rating of 3.2 is reflective of his standard.

Unfortunately he lost today to Villakorta, 7-5, 6-1

If you have an LTA rating of 4.1 or higher you're going to be a really top-class player but in order to have any chance of making it you need to have a rating of 1.2 or 1.1 unless you're a junior.

That's a great win for Phillip Barlow, should help him pay a good bit of his expenses for this week.
