What a day for James Auckland. Won two matches and only dropped 8 games! That's a great perfromance against Saulnier. I really hope its the correct one!
Fantastic win for James Auckland over Saulnier !!!! What a turnaround in form in a couple of days. On Monday he lost in straights to a guy ranked 487 and today he beats the 3rd seed and former world no 48 in straights.
I didn't expect him to get a set given it was on a slow surface, never mind win 4 and 2, what a result Saulnier's such a massive hitter and he's been playing ATPs regularly and has beaten Rusedski on hard courts.
Tomorrow he faces Austrian Alex Peya who's ranked 138. Peya beat a German wildcard 6-4, 6-1 in rd1 and in rd2 he beat James' conqueror from the qualies, Thomas Oger - 7-6[4], 6-0. Peya's been in superb form lately, winning the Istanbul challenger and reaching the Togliatti challenger final in July. He qualified for Wimbledon before losing to Labadze in 5 sets in rd1, the Georgian went on to reach rd4. Peya's big strength is a sublime single-handed backhand. He's played James twice before, both matches in 2002. James won 7-6, 6-4 in rd1 of the Hamilton challenger on hard courts and Peya won 6-1, 6-7, 7-6 in rd1 of the Surbiton challenger. The match will be shown on the live streaming. However, I have a problem in that I can't get it to work: I need Flash player I think, but Firefox won't let me download it - does anyone else have this problem ?
James' points so far from this challenger will take him up to 393 in singles from 441. If he beats Peya he'll move up to 371.
Great wins aswell for the Brits in doubles. Must have been satisfying for James to thrash Oger in the doubles after being denied the qualifying points by him in the singles. An all-Brit final looks very likely at the moment. I don't think 4th seeds Chadaj and Eleskovic will trouble Hutchins and Marray, I think the big threat is likely to be 3rd seeds Mertl and Vacek who could cause plenty of problems for Auckland and Delgado in the other semi with their huge serves.
