At least they've got a chance in the main draw. Sounds like Phillippoussis was impressed by Martin Lee last week so hopefully he can up his level and oust mr Lu.

ATP reports that Josh Goodall was given Uros Vicos spot in main draw as a LL. Unfortunately he lost 64 64 to Danai Udomchoke, but that's not actually a bad performance in my opinion. Udomchoke has been pretty hot this year.

Better news for Josh in doubles though, him and Ratiwatana won 62 63 and face Lee/Levy next.

Fantastic news from the doubles, Martin and Harel have made the final, beating Coetzee and Kendrick 2-6, 7-5, [10-8] in a thrilling match They now face Americans Lipsky and Martin in the final who won Binghamton last week, beating Fleming and Murray in the final. Lipsky and Martin have been red hot this week, they beat top seeds and top 100 pairing Eric Butorac and Travis Parrott in straight sets in the quarters. Martin is a leftie but his serve can be targeted, he's a great volleyer though. Lipsky has a huge serve, Fleming and Murray were unable to get anywhere near it last week, he didn't face a single break point in that final.

Martin's doubles ranking is already guaranteed to move up to 155 from 173 after this week, if he and Harel win he'll move up to 146 !!

Other GB results from the singles main draw, unfortunately none of the Brits were able to make use of their lucky loser places:

Morrison beat Arvind in straights on grass last year so it wasn't surprising that it was a similar story on Morrison's favourite surface. Arvind and Josh did the best in singles in Bronx this week, their opponents have both gone on to make the semis so they have reason to feel a little hard done by with the draw. Martin's poor form in singles on the hard courts this summer has really been a puzzle, Lu is ranked a lot higher but in both their matches the 1st set has been very close and then Martin has fallen away in the 2nd, maybe struggling with the heat ?

The story about the Colin/Parmar and Murray/Capdeville pairings: Colin and Jamie missed the cut as a pair [it was 286 and their combined ranking is 316] so Jamie signed in with Capdeville who he's partnered before. Arvind won the doubles here with Delgado a few years back so he was given a wc if he could find a partner and he asked Colin as they played together in Manchester last month.

I asked Colin how he felt about champions tiebreaks instead of 3rd sets, he said "Champions tiebreaks are a lottery, however I suppose it makes things more exciting for the fans. I don't think the best team always wins because of them though."

I also asked him which his favourite tournament venue was, having been all over the world in the past year. He had no doubts - "Edinburgh ! I'm fairly biased towards that venue though ! It's hard to pick one really, all venues are just a hotel and some tennis courts. Ecuador was very nice actually, we played at a yacht club. However, it was too hot though which affected my tennis. The trip to Cuba was average, the food was a bit rough there."

Unfortunately there's no qualifying tournament for the US Open doubles. Only Wimbledon has a doubles qualifying event.

Auckland is the only Brit ranked high enough to get into the doubles main draw
