Martin Lee(2), Arvind Parmar(8) and Jamie Baker are all in qualifying here.
Martin faces Carlos Salamanca of Colombia in Round One.
Arvind faces Florin Merge of Romania who Jamie beat last week!
Jamie has drawn 6th seed Peter Wessels of the Netherlands in R1.
Arvind would appear to have the best chance of progresing in my opinion as his quarter is mainly full of wc's and players he has beaten before. His biggest threat is Bloomers nemesis Alun Jones but he's have to reach R3 for that.
Salamanca is aged 23 and ranked 323 which is pretty much his high point which tells me he's on his way up! Looks like he's a clay courter though. Won the Cuenca challenger this year and QF in Bogota.
Mergea is 21 and ranked 294. Reached QF in Milan challenger but best results have been in Romanian futures. Arvind should beat him.
Wessles is 28 now and has slipped from 72 in the world this time last year to 225. I don't know if its becasue of injury or poor form, but hopefully either way Jamie can catch him off guard and steal his seeding spot in the qualifying draw. Wessels made the final at the ST Brieuc challenger this year but no other results of much note. In fact he's lost his last 5 matches. Come on Jamie B!
The draw has changed an Josh Goodall has appeared!!!!!!!!!!!! He plays Eric Taino of Phillippines in r1 and is in same quarter as top seed and fast rising junior champion Marin Cilic!
I didn't see him there when I started this topic earlier but I was probably just wrong. Just glad he's there and hope he can keep up his good form heading towards US Open qualies!

QR2: Josh Goodall WR 260 beat (q7) Fabio Fognini (ITA) WR 253 by 1-6 6-0 7-6(5) QR2: (q2) Martin Lee WR 205 beat Pierre-Ludovic Duclos (CAN) WR 614 by 2 & 2 QR2: Jamie Baker WR 310 lost to Gianluca Naso (ITA) WR 391 by 0-6 6-2 6-4 QR2: (q8) Arvind Parmar WR 257 beat (WC) Todd Paul (USA) WR 1003 by 3-6 6-4 6-1
Josh impressed again, beating Taino more easily than expected then coming back from a 1-6 1st set loss to beat seeded Fognini, while Martin and Arvind won the matches they were expected too, for some reason getting much lower-ranked opponents in QR2 than in QR1. Jamie got a bit of good fortune when Wessels retired, but who knows what happened against Naso, when he lost after bagelling him in the 1st set?
Cilic was the player who won Roland Garros juniors last year, beating Andy Murray in the semis, and was no. 1 junior in the world earlier this year. Since then, he has been shooting up the senior rankings, qualifying and then reaching the semis of the main tour event at Gstaad, for example. His best results have come on clay though.
QR3: (q2) Martin Lee WR 205 v (q5) Andrea Stoppini (ITA) WR 224
Mankad beat Josh in the Manchester Final, but more encouragingly his one previous meeting with Arvind was the following week at the Nottingham Challenger, Mankad's last match before yesterday, when Arvind won 3 & 3. He did thrash Bloomers' nemesis Alun Jones yesterday though.

Good results for three of the Brits but what on earth happened to Jamie Baker? He should have beaten Naso, especially after such an easy first round match. Maybe he got overconfident after winning the first set 6-0 but there are worse things than bageling an opponent. I thought Jamie had got back on track at Binghampton, now he will be looking to once again bounce back from disappointment.
Josh Goodall has drawn a real star of the future in Marin Cilic, the 1988 generation of Korolev, Del Potro, Gulbis, and Cilic haven't made the impression that Murray and Djokovic made last season but there seems to be a greater breadth of talent and I think it is just a matter of time before all of these players make a big breakthrough. Hopefully it won't be this week for Cilic.
3quite tough final qualifying matches for the British guys.
However I am encouraged by the fact that I don't expect them all to lose limply like I have expected in the past. I think the current situation of players ranked 200-600 is quite encouraging for British tennis!
Goodall/Ratiwatana ( maybe sonchat's brother is injured - fair enough)
Lee/Levy (played together last week - fair enough)
I can only think Arvind really wanted to play to get match practice for US open qualies but couldn't make the cut so begged Colin or Jamie to play with him and the other had to find someone fast. Its not as if they've just played the final of another tournament or something!
What is the situation for LL spots in challengers? I think I read here that it has changed, and that the lucky loser sports are drawn out of a hat, instead of going to the highest ranked player. Assuming that some LL spots become available, we must have chance!
