US Open series standings

As many of you will be aware, the US Open series is a mini-ranking list competition covering the 6 pre-USO weeks of the US summer hard court swing.

Players who finish in the top three of the US Open Series get a bonus on top of any money they win at the US Open itself. For example, last year Kim Clijsters won both the US Open series and the US Open itself, winning herself a total of US$ 2.2 m (US$ 2.1 m for winning the USO and a bonus of US$ 1 m), the biggest prize ever in women's sport.

I make it that Andy is 2nd in the series so far and will go top if he wins tonight. It helps that Toronto is Fed's first tournament since Wimbledon and Andy will get knocked off the top by whoever wins this tournament (unless it's him or he reaches the Final and is beaten by someone who hasn't reached the last 16 of Indy, LA or Washington!) and possibly by anyone else who survives longer in Toronto than he does, but even so ...

Current standings up to Toronto QFs:

72 Tursunov (35 for LA Final, 22 for Washington SF, 15 for Toronto R3)
60 Murray (35 for Washington Final, 25 for Toronto QF)
59 Gonzalez (12 for Indianapolis QF, 22 for LA SF, 25 for Toronto QF)
50 Blake (50 for winning Indianapolis)
50 Clément (50 for winning Washington)
50 Haas (50 for winning LA)

(the only finalist so far who's not shown is Roddick, who's on 47 points)

Points for reaching Toronto SF: 45 (70 for the R/U, 100 for the winner)

Interesting that the winners of the first three tournaments in the series haven't reached the last 16 of any of the other tournaments including Toronto.

Update after the QFs - Andy takes the lead! (grin)

80 Murray (35 for Washington Final, 45 for Toronto SF)
79 Gonzalez (12 for Indianapolis QF, 22 for LA SF, 45 for Toronto SF)
72 Tursunov (35 for LA Final, 22 for Washington SF, 15 for Toronto R3)
50 Blake (50 for winning Indianapolis)
50 Clément (50 for winning Washington)
50 Haas (50 for winning LA)

The lowest Andy can be after this week is 3rd, if Gonzo reaches the Final and Gasquet wins it, or 2nd if Fed wins the Final.

LOL yes, but anywhere in the top 3 could be worth big $$s if he does well in the USO too. Even the top 3 is a tough ask though given his draw this week.

Assuming he wins the USO of course, which we can now almost take for granted. (and no-one else gets points from the Pilot Pen to overtake)

I think it is all linked to how well you do at US Open as to the factor your US OPen SEries Standings points are multiplied by.

The top three in the lead up to the US Open get a bonus payment depending on how well they do at the US Open.
