Andy is up to 27th. He has a GREAT chance to guarantee a seeding for US Open, not only because he has a great draw but also because most of the players behind him have been knocked out!
Verdasco, who Andy can overtake if he makes the semis only if Verdasco doesn't make the quarters beat Kim
(ahem) Henman who could have overtaken had he won and Andy lost is out to some young Scot.
next up: Tursunov vs Haas. If Haas wins, Andy can't overtake even if he wins the tournament. If Tursunov wins, Andy can't overtake him unless he reaches the semis.....hmm...being realistic, let's hope for Haas to win, and Andy to overtake Dimo by getting to the quarters.
later on: Johansson: the greatest threat left behind Andy.
I want tursunov to beat haas cos i honestly think andy can reach the semis and then possibly overtake them both in the near future (if haas wins it will be a while till andy comes close to him.)

But it's already a while before Andy reaches Haas. He must win the tournament to overtake this week. Haas is nearly 400 points ahead.
The best thing for Andy in terms of ensuring a US Open seeding would be for Tursunov to lose, maximising the number of places Andy can gain by getting to the quarters(ie 2 instead of 1)

Look at the bright side of things - tursunov will almost certainly lose to fed tomorrow! If murray reaches the Semis he'll overtake DT and will be closing on Haas!!
If Andy loses to Moya, the worst case is a drop of two places to 29th (was 4 to 31st yesterday). Johansson can overtake (if he makes the semi),so can Malisse, Moya or Gasquet (Final) and Benneteau (winner)
If Andy gets to the quarters, he gains one more place (was 2), and then can drop two (was 4) to 28th. Johansson and Malisse (final), Gasquet and Benneteau (winner) can overtake.
If he reaches the semis, he gains seven places, and then can drop four (was 5) to 24th. Acasuso and Verdasco (Quarters), Tursunov (semis), Johansson, Malisse and Gasquet (winners) can overtake.
A finals place sees him gaining another 8 places, and then he can drop one to 20th (was 21st). Acasuso and Tursunov (final) and Johansson (Winner) can overtake.
Winning the event gains him another 10 places to 17th, and he can't be overtaken.
Malisse and Johansson play each other today. As Johansson is nearer to Andy in the rankings than Malisse, I suppose we have to support Xavier. Is that right? I'm not too hot on these "ifs, ands or buts".
It will be difficult, but I suppose I have brought myself to support Stepanek several times on Andy's behalf, so I will grit my teeth (and hope he crashes out in the next round)

Technically your right Madeline but Johansson can win another round before overtaking Andy so we can let him beat Malisse. (I really hope he does!)
