As usual, any mistakes let me know! I've left out all the 19th results because they are irrelevant, everyone on the table except Calleri was on the entry list for Toronto so have to count that in their rankings so only 18th or defending is needed.

Toronto Points: | 5 | 35 | 75 | QF 125 | SF - 225 |RU - 350 |w - 500 |

Those who gained places on Friday (11th August) are in italics

So far it's looking good for him, all but two of the people behind him must reach at least the third round to overtake. Above, there are a few in reach but as he gets into the highest rankings it becomes more difficult to rise further. But...we shall have to see!

How to format the table, a RobC guide
To avoid having to spend hours deleting & inserting spaces in the table after it's in the activeboard editor, I do a lot of pre- formatting in microsoft word:

  • First I'll cut & paste from Excel, choosing "Match destination table style" to give me a table format in word. I'll then delete any columns or rows I don't need, and then change the text into Courier 10 point.
  • Then I'll cut and paste that table onto a new Word document, choosing "Keep text only" then:
  • Change the text into Courier again.
  • Replace paragraph ends with newline characters (stops the activeboard editor inserting a blank line between every line of text: use Word's find & replace, and then replace "^p" with "^l", doing a "replace all"
  • Select all of the table, make sure that "ruler" is displayed, add tab marks by clicking inside the ruler, so that the columns line up in the right places. Make sure there's a fair bit of space after the names.
  • For the tab marks controlling number columns, double click on them, and then set them to decimal tab marks (line up the last digit) rather than the left-align ones which are the default.
  • Cut & paste this into the activeboard text editor window. It should be "about right".
  • Add the "pre, /pre" tags at the start and end
  • Submit the post, so that the editor can work its magic, and mess up the formatting in its own style.
  • Edit the post
  • Show a preview.
  • Add/remove spaces & keep pressing preview until it looks OK.

thanks.

On a less technical note - I was worried what effect losing the Binghampton points from last year would have on Andy's ranking.

answer: None!!!!!

He's now got enough big points from other tournaments that losing 50 points doesn't lose him a place! Wow, it's the big time!

I know, I was the same. It is helped by the fact that others around him are defending as well but still, no complaints here!

If the table was an image and then just hosted then pasted into the post would that not be much quicker ? Okay no-one could edit it but all you would do would take a new image, host it and re-paste...just a thought

very true. I think I worked out how to post an image after I'd posted a few tables....

On the other hand, if Bethan had done that this week, I wouldn't have been able to cut & paste from her post into my spreadsheet....

Now the real solution is for activeboard to sort out their editor, so that it formats things correctly, and we can just cut and paste courier text from excel or word

the table for Tim is in it's own thread in general discussion. the reason it isn't here is because it would make it too long, and therefore harder to a) edit and format and b) understand when reading. If they get about 15 places closer again then the tables will be re-combined.

Yesterday we had mixed fortunes on the pin front, both Bjorkman and Soderling went out however, this was balanced by the fact that T johansson and Grosjean both went through.

Pins for today:

Behind Andy Ferrero, Chela, Vliegen, Massu, Malisse (and T johansson, Grosjean ready for rd2)

Ahead of Andy Tursunov, Verdasco, Acasuso and Hrbaty (the last two being in rd2 already)

Also pins into Ferrer to help out Andy.

Pessimists: Andy could lose today and be overtaken by about 10 people, dropping to 39th in the world, a fall of 8 places.

optimists: Andy could win the tournament, and not be overtaken by anyone in the process, rising to 17th in the world, a rise of 14places.

mixed news at the moment, Vleigen is a set and double break down (yay!) But JC Ferrero is a set up, although it was close, need a few more pins into him please as he is Murray's closest threat.

The pins were not sharp enough, Ferrero won and goes above Andy. . . C'mon Andy, you need to beat Ferrer now! (Well, he always did need to beat him, but you know what I mean)

massu is out of the picture, (not sure how much credit we can claim for that though, he was playing Nadal)

when looking at the table, it shows his defending points as 50. i thought his run to the washington final was enough to get rid of the binghampton win
