I am an idiot... feel free to ignore!

In my quest to figure out how the rankings work, one of the things that has confused me was when I checked out the ranking points for Wimbledon, and found it to have similar ranking points to other ATP events (200 points for the winner). http://www.atptennis.com/en/tournaments/profile/540.asp

http://www.atptennis.com/en/tournaments/profile/418.asp

although, I've realised that the points breakdown for Wimbledon, the US Open (and possibly some other tournaments) must be wrong, after looking at Roger Federer's scarily impressive points breakdown profile (http://www.atptennis.com/3/en/players/playerprofiles/pointsbreakdown.asp?player=F324) and seeing the 1,000 points for the grand slams which he's won.

I actually think I have a good idea as to how the rankings work now, although, I'm going to try and read up a little bit more.

RE: Error on ATP site...

No there is no error with the atp site. Those are the RACE points! For winning Wimbledon you get 200 race points but 1000 entry (ranking) points!

The entry points are 5 times the race points but race points are only available on the main atp tour whereas entry points extend down to challengers, f1s etc and are on a 12 month rolling system whereas race points start from January and give a better indication of CURRENT form. Hope this helps.

New question

So in the tournament profile, why does it not distinguish between ranking points and race points(?), for the Australian Open  http://www.atptennis.com/en/tournaments/profile/580.asp (and also the French Open) it gives the ranking points up for grabs, which is different from the other big 2 tournaments.  Sorry if I'm overlooking something obvious.

I don't know why that is. It may be that the ATP is changing it from one to the other gradually and it just hasn't changed two of the grand slams yet but I can't think of any other reason. The way to tell is that in race points rd1 is always 1 point whereas in the ranking points rd1 is always 5 points.

Ranking points are always 5x the race points for a touranment.
