Well done Jamie for shaking off the disapointments of last week and making light work of a tricky opponent. Now he has to take advantage of a decent draw and get his career moving forward again.
Is the guy Jamie beat 60 64 in qualifying the same guy who Tim Henman struggled against last week in Washington? If so thats a great performance form Jamie Baker!

Yeah it was the same Phillip King ! Henman beat him 6-7, 6-3, 7-5 in comparison ! It was a fantastic performance from Jamie, there were lots of long rallies but Jamie dominated them throughout the match.
Jamie has reacted to the Vacouver debacle in the best possible way.
In the 2nd round he will face Thomas Cakl who beat Mashiska Washington (wr-1004) 6-4 7-6(5)
i think Cakl ranked in the 140s, so thats going to be a tough match for Baker. but i hope the win gives him the confidence to do well and with Cakl struggling against a name which i think is a girly name (unless he had an op!!) then Baker should win.
Cakl is ranked 163 in the world but he has lost first round in 11/14 tournaments since February and he struggled to beat Mashiska Washington (wr-1004).
The way Jamie is playing this is a good opportunity.
Looks like Martin Lee lost 67 63 36 to Phillippoussis which is a pretty good effort but frustrating for Martin.
Report from Binghamton website as follows -
Really great day of tennis today. In the ranks of the best days in the history here in Broome. Really enjoyable to see Rec Park jammed and full of excitement. Philippoussis did not disappoint tonight. It is reminiscent of Andy Murray last year in that match against Harsh... Mark turned it on in the 3rd set after he relaxed. 1st set really it was Lee who impressed. Lee was there to play hard and made it a good one. Lots of quick points. In the second, Mark let the concentration slip and Martin took advantage. Credit there to Lee because he took the opportunity that was given. Mark was disappointed too. It got to him and he let out a yell when he was winning 2-1 in the 3rd, 30-40 Lee serving. The chair gave him a warning for foul language. Mark flipped and immediately called for the supervisor. Poussis apparently needed that moment to focus. He ended up breaking Lee in that game. The level of play had risen. "Scared to hit the ball" Mark said as he was continually searching to step it up. A couple of games later, Mark didn't get to a short ball quick enough and the chair correctly said he hadn't. Mark mentioned a couple of words to the chair, and gave the crowd a big laugh when he smiled looking for a break. He continued to settle down and interact with the crowd a bit and the game responded. He stepped it up, chipping and charging more and showing the crowd some crisp volleys. The decider was a big baseline forehand that Lee couldn't get to.
That was yesterday. Martin is on court in his doubles match highlighted a few posts ago. Winners face Fleming / Murray.
