Sarah did well to take Hsieh to 3 sets, shame she couldn't have edged it but she should be able to take a lot from that match. I guess we'll hear the full story about it in her weekly column next Monday.
Pleased that Anne won but disappointing that she wasn't able to wrap it up in straights. She'll really have to raise her level if she's going to beat Lepchenko [4] or Brandi in the next round [they're playing tonight, I'll post details on Anne's rd2 opponent tomorrow morning when I know who it is].
Live scoring for Washington extends to court 2 so hopefully we'll be able to follow Anne's next match.
Later on: Singles R2 Varvara Lepchencko 4 (UZB, 114) vs. Anne Keothavong(GBR) 4 pm DC time.
A tough match for Anne.
Then doubles: Maria Fernanda Alves (BRA) / Eva Hrdinova (CZE) vs Alberta Brianti (ITA) / Anne Keothavong (GBR) followed by Sarah Borwell (GBR) / Napaporn Tongsalee (THA) vs Su-Wei Hsieh (TPE) / Tatiana Poutchek (BLR)
Shame about Anne's result, Lepenchenko is only ranked about 30 places higher but she's playing like a top 100 player right now, she won a 75K in July and also reached rd2 of WTA Cincinatti.
