Players in bold are still active

Washington (W): 200 | 140 | 90 | 50 | 20 | 10 | 5 | (q:5)

Sopot(S): 175 | 120 | 75 | 40 | 15 | 5 | (q:5)

Segovia: CH (s): 80 | 56 | 36 | 19 | 8 | 1 |(q:3)

You'll be glad to know that Tennisfacts is back!

However, do be aware that the numbers aren't all what they should be.  They've got Goldstein, Gicquel, Dlouhy, Muller, Di Mauro, Kunitsyn as Qualifiers in their respective tournaments.

But they have put rightone thing from  psmyth's table oif last week. Christophe Rochus did not have 50 points to defend, which unfortunately means that Greg drops another place to 71st

[Edit:] more stray "qualifiers": Ginepri , Garcia-Lopez

Good news to start the week. Andy jumps two places to 33rd, as Chela and Coria defend points from last year and drop below him. The even better news is that Monfils, Ferrero, Andreev and Bjorkman are not playing this week, so a good showing could see a significant rise in the rankings.

Tim's similarly better off: Mayer and Karlovic have dropped so that he can rise to 63rd.

Greg's risen one place as Mayer drops below him.

Over to Imoen for the runners and riders this week.

arent most of the players on the list that are playing at washington, seeds? does that mean they are on 10 pts so far? or do they have to win a match before they can get more than 5 pts?

i think i may have found my own answer. Mirnyi was a seed last year and got a bye in the first round, lost in the second and thus only got 5 pts.

Andy has to reach atleast Round 3 to gain any points and must reach the final to have any chance of gaining any places but hopefully if he goes far he can close the gap to the others and make it harder for others to go past him as if he went into the US OPEN before any withdrawls as 33rd highest rank player he would almost certainly get a seeding as Andreev is a big doubt.

table updated with new ATP numbers. Only big change is Davide Sanguinetti, who is not above Tim any more.

Now then, where to put those pins today:

Andy.

As Michael said, Andy must reach the quarters before he gains any places. Luckily, the same is true of his competitors. There are only four who can overtake at all this week (even by winning the tournament). These are Chela, Calleri, Coria and Srichaphan. Chela and Calleri require a quarter-final place to do so, Coria a semi and Srichaphan must win.

Tim and Greg

Are much less lucky. Like Andy, Tim must reach the quarters to gain any points. Both Tim and Greg face an immediate threat in Phau and Monaco who need one match each to overtake (for Phau this is a second round match).

Mahut(for Tim), Fish(for Tim), Mayer(for Greg) and Melzer(for Greg). All need to reach the quarters to overtake.

Then we get to a great long list of people who must reach the semis or beyond to overtake. Not everyone can do so as they are drawn to meet one another however there are too many to list at the moment. I'll be more precise after round 1 has weeded (hopefully) some out.

So get to work people!

Optimists post:

Andy to win the tournament, no one to overtake leaving him at 27th, a rise of 8 places.
Tim to wim the tournament, no one to overtake leaving him at 47th, a rise of 17 places.
Greg to remain where he is, leaving him at 70th, a rise of 1 place.

pessimists post:

Greg could lose a maximum of 8 places, dropping to 78th overall. more than 20 players can overtake (but they would have to beat each other, so a max of 8 will).

If Tim & Andy go out in Rs 2 or 3: they get no additional points, and so:

Andy could drop a maximum of 4 places to 37th. 4 players can overtake.
Tim could drop a maximum of 7 places to 69th. 17 players can overtake.

If Tim & Andy make it to the Quarter- finals.

Andy could drop a maximum of 3 places to 36th. 4 players can overtake.
Tim would gain 4, then could lose a maximum of 8 places, to drop a maximum of 4 to 66th. 15 can overtake.

If Tim & Andy make it to the Semi- finals

Andy could drop a maximum of 1 place to 34th. 3 players can overtake.
Tim would gain 5, then could lose a maximum of 6, to drop a max of 1 to 63. 11 can overtake.

If Tim OR Andy make it to the final (they would meet in the semis)

Andy would gain 2, then could lose a maximum of 2, to drop a max of 0 to 33. 4 can overtake.
Tim would gain 8, then could lose a max of 3, to gain a min of 5, to 57th. 8 can overtake.

If Tim OR Andy win the tournament

Andy would gain 6, then could lose a max of 2. to gain a min of 4, to 29th! 2 can overtake.
Tim would gain 15, then could lose a max of 1, o gain a min of 14, to 48th! 3 can overtake.

wow - I think that's all the permutations.

I'm impressed. I chickened out of working all that out and stuck to being an optimist.

The first match of the day is over and good news, C. Rochus (a threat to Tim) has been beaten. Keep up the good work!

I'm sitting here, slowly putting my new PC together. waiting while I take a new ghost image of a system that works before I add a new application to mess everything up with......plenty of time to waste as I can't do any real work while it's going on (or at least that's what I'm telling myself.

Looking at the OOP for Soport. Just 3 more matches today ( I assume there's lots of quallies still happening.

Anyway, I guess we want Coria (3rd Andy threat) to lose against the local wildcard, but who to pin betweeb Dlouhy (vague threat to Greg) and Ram-Ham (who Tim can overtake if he beats andy and reaches the final).....hmmm...
