Amanda lost 7-6 6-1 in the SF to Kelly Liggan

Kelly went on to win the tournament.

I don't follow Irish players much, though have noticed Kelly rising up pretty rapidly (a bit of a Mel S year).

A trivia question therefore, who is the best ever Irish player, male/female, by ATP/WTA ranking or otherwise (e.g. before rankings).

I don't think any Irish men have been in the top 300 so is it Kelly ?

- They have the first ever Olympic Tennis champion, John Pius Boland, silver medallist Harold Mahoney, a twice US Open winner, Mabel Cahill, Wimbledon Champions Willoughby Hamilton and Joshua Pim, and then WR 228 Owen Casey. All except Casey were pre 1900!
