RE: Andy's Competitors week 30

3rd set: 6-5 Massu ....... 6-6 ......7-6(3)

Ah well...he's not overtaken yet.  We'll need Calleri or Eitzinger to beat him tomorrow.

In Henman/Rusedski world, Wawrinka's through, (Tim, QF)going just 7 points behind Tim. Robin Vik's out  (Greg, SF), and Jurgen Melzer's (Greg, SF) through, having beaten Robredo.

On court now, and overtaking Tim if he wins is Filippo Volandri, playing on- form Ruben Ramirez-Hidalgo.

Melzer beating Robredo was not in the plan

Vamos Ramirez-Hidalgo! He is on form at the moment so hopefully can win this match

......but Volandri wins sets 2 & 3 in the tie- break while the pin- wielders are asleep

Overnight in LA, Goldstein (Greg, F) is through. But he's the last threat left on that side of the Atlantic

Table updated.

Tim drops 1 place to 61st

Mirnyi, Volandri, Wawrinka, Goldstein and Melzer advance.

Horna & Ramirez- Hidalgo (ahead of Tim), Seppi (behind him), Monaco, Pashanski, Vik, Safin (threatening Greg) are all out.

Pessimists will be glad to know that things are looking up for Greg in particular:

Worst case drop for Andy: 1 places to 35th, ending up 1 up from last week's 36th. (was 3 places)
Worst case drop for Tim: another 7 places to 68th, ending up 5 down from 63rd. (was 7 places yesterday)
Worst case drop for Greg: 3 places to 73rd, 3 down from 70th. (was 7 places yesterday morning)

Optimists will, of course be confident that Tim's drop this morning is the last one that needs to happen

Over to Imoen: What will the future hold?

As has been said there was a drop of one place for Tim yesterday. The other two are holding steady but it's getting more precarious.

Mega pins into Massu, Mayer, Wawrinka and Kohlschreiber please as all will overtake if they win their next match (Massu going past Murray, the rest past Tim.)

Any malice left over can be directed at those behind Greg: Sanguinetti, Pavel, Goldstien, Melzer, Gruel.

Finally please put a precautionary pin or two in Chela, Moya, Mirnyi and Youzhny who will come into play against Murray if they keep winning matches!

So Tim is in the most danger today followed closely by Murray, let's put some pins in!!

Absolutely, that would leave him at 61 in the world, still a rise of 2 places. It's gonna happen!! ()

That's better. Niemenen gets a break, and its 4-2 in the second....

.....and Jarkko converts the break 6-4.  Now it's 2-1 Kohlschreiber in the third. Ajaa Suomi!!  (Which I think is "Come on Finland!" in Finnish)

Grrr - Kohlschreiber breaks: 3-1. Now then Philipp, remember that you're up against the world number 15.  Now would be a good time to choke...

Well, now it's time for Andy's competitors to do what Tim's have failed to do: lose.

Nicolas Massu is on court against Calleri.

.....And it seems the pins are working now: Calleri is leading 5- 1 in the first.
