Outdoor hard is probably Jamie's best surface as it suits his feisty baseline game. He's won 2 of his 3 futures titles on outdoor hard. Last summer, he played a string of futures event on American cement and won a match 6-7, 7-6, 7-6 in 105 F.
I think that the deciding factor in this match was probably that Evans is a bigger server.
Hopefully things go better for Jamie in Vancouver, he should have a good chance of qualifying as he'll be one of the top seeds having only just missed the cut.
I think clay would also suit Jamie well but so far on the senior circuit, he's only played a handful of matches on it.
