This is the updated entry list. Delgado and Childs have just scraped in following the withdrawl of Jean-Francois Bachelot.
Wild cards have been awarded to Jonathan Marray who needs to pick up some points to halt his slide down the rankings, Ross Hutchins and the two stars of GB F10 Tom Rusby and Robert Searle.
Entry List
1 Bogdanovic, Alex GBR 135 2 Navarro Pastor, Ivan ESP 147 3 Dupuis, Antony FRA 155 4 Elseneer, Gilles BEL 156 5 Gonzalez, Santiago MEX 167 6 Parmar, Arvind GBR 201 7 Carraz, Gregory FRA 212 8 Vacek, Jan CZE 228 9 Lee, Martin GBR 252 10 Guccione, Chris AUS 258 11 Matsui, Toshihide JPN 277 12 Bourgeois, Luke AUS 286 13 Tourte, Nicolas FRA 301 14 Baccanello, Paul AUS 347 15 Renavand, Nicolas FRA 351 16 Peric, Tomislav CRO 357 17 Smith, Matthew GBR 362 18 Mackin, Alan GBR 367 19 Mankad, Harsh IND 381 20 Goodall, Joshua GBR 398 21 Qureshi, Aisam-Ul-Haq PAK 414 22 Junaid, Rameez AUS 419 23 Delgado, Jamie GBR 447 24 Childs, Lee GBR 481 25 WC - Jonathan Marray 26 WC - Ross Hutchins 27 WC - Tom Rushby 28 WC - Robert Searle 29 Q - Colin Fleming 30 Q - Alex Miotto 31 Q - Julien Maes 32 Q - Andrew Coelho
Qualifying draw is out. No sign of Delgado, Childs or Marray so I'd assume they all made the main draw either by right or by wildcard. Colin Fleming and Neil Bamford are in qualifying so will be interesting to see the wild cards. Auckland (who failed to sign in)? Sherwood back? Slabinski probably.
Qual Round 1:
(1) C Fleming vs S Groth (Aus) (wc) E Corrie vs C Eaton J May vs T Aaron (USA) D Cottier vs (7) N Bamford
(2) L Zovko (Cro) vs S Mishra (Ind) J McGahon (Ire) vs E Iannuzzi (Ita) A Miotto vs S La Porte (USA) C Crisp vs (8) I Flanagan
(3) J Sirianni (Aus) vs S Thornley A Kennaugh vs (wc) R Chambers R Irwin vs A Fitzgerald (Aus) (wc) N Cavaday vs (6) J Maes (Fra)
(4) A Coelho (Aus) vs O Charroin (Fra) (wc) K Skupsky vs J Ludlow (USA) (wc) A Maskill vs B Arlidge (wc) A Fitzpatrick vs (5) F Martin (Fra)
So on my reckoning, assuming nobody pulls out, we might have as many as 15 Brits in the main draw (surely a record for a Challenger):
A Bogdanovic M Lee A Parmar M Smith A Mackin J Goodall J Delgado L Childs J Marray? A Slabinsky? J Auckland? AN Other wc? Q1 - hopefully C Fleming Q2 - hopefully A Miotto or I Flanagan Q3 - hopefully A Kennaugh or R Irwin or N Cavaday
SE's only apply to tournaments at the same level, so unfortunately Rushby, who is still in the future isn't eligible for the challenger se. But i guess they could have given him one of the wilcards, depends on Auckland I guess.
(8) I Flanagan bt C Crisp 6-2 6-1 R Irwin bt A Fitzgerald (Aus) 6-2 6-0 (6) J Maes (Fra) bt (wc) N Cavaday 6-2 6-2 (5) F Martin (Fra) bt (wc) A Fitzpatrick 6-3 6-2
overnight scores:
A Kennaugh leads R Chambers 4-1 B Arlidge leads A Maskill 6-3 5-5 K Skupski leads J Ludlow (USA) 2-1 A Miotto level with S La Porte (USA) 3-6 6-3
There is a fair sprinkling of Brits in the main draw and so far there are two all British ties in the first round. Bogdanovic vs Mackin, a clash of styles if ever there was one, and sadly one of the previous weeks finalists will be leaving early as Josh Goodall has will face Tom Rushby.
The usual crowd of British juniors are missing from both draws so I would expect most to go to the European Junior Individual Championships in Switzerland this week.
that could be a tough one for alex, if he is a bit down after his dc loss, possibly injured, mackin played really well in the dead rubber, ok there was no pressure and his opponent wasn't up to much but am sure it will have boosted his confidence. Although alex odes have a pretty good record vs fellow brits.
I wonder if they will delay the match till wednesday as both are coming from dc duty, normally would be tuesday start wouldnt it? but am sure they can push to wednesday, might depend on the weather tho.

Good news, two Brits are through to the main draw. Colin Fleming has justified his top seeding and Alex Miotto has once again benefited from a retirement.
Bad news, Alex Bogdanovic and Mat Smith have pulled out and have been replaced with lucky losers, both are foreign.
This is probably good for Alan Mackin will now face Julien Maes (wr-574), then Miotto or Hutchins. However, Colin Fleming has drawn the short straw and will face 4th seed Gilles Elseneer.
That is a painful loss for Robert Searle against world number 276 Matsui. I don't know where Searle has been hiding but it seems like he has real talent.
I don't get this fascination with Alan Mackin and clay courts. He talks about clay as his favourite surface but all his best results seem to come on the grass. Also he would easily make the clay chalenger draw in Finland this week but has chosen to play on grass. Has a good chance too!
