to be honest, wins over levine and bastl are challenger wins and like ones ales has done often b4. this was his 1st proper match here and he seems to have blown big time. i wonder if we will find out what happened.

I still take a lot of positives now from this. He's had a couple of wins on the ATP circuit, played a QF. It's all part of making the transition from challengers to ATP. IT was only a year ago that Andy was in the same sort of twilight zone between the 2. (Interesting to think that now, the thought of Andy playing a challenger is ludicrous)
Obviously something went badly wrong for Alex, and he couldn'r do anything about it. One game out of 10 on fast grass is a not good. Its a shame, because it was a wonderful opportunity for Alex to win some easy points. I know he still got to his first ever ATP level QF, but as has been said befor earlier in the thread, these wins were really only Challenger level wins, this Newhaven tournament having the weakest field of the year and also on Al's favourite surface. Maybe the explanation is that Al picked up an injury, but this wouldn't be terribly encouraging either, he has also lost some of the early of the year to injury. So far this grass court season, he has won 2, lost 5.
On the positive side, he has won $35,000 this grass court season!
I checked his year end rankings, it least it shows steady if slow progress:
i'm still struggeling to put together what happened to alex, and i cant think of any reason that could be encourgaing. for the DC's sake i really hope his confidence hasn't taken a big blow. i would also be suprised if it was a case of head going down, as he hasnt let this happen in any of his other grass court matches. one possibility is that if the match was played on a dual centre court he got distracted by the other court?
