15-0, 15-15, 15-30 15-40: Match point Waske....GSM Waske

Sorry Jonas, no crowd hugging this week!

Now Andy (just) needs to win in Newport and he can overtake.

Poor Jonas - what a come-down, from losing to Fed in a GS semi, to losing to Alexander Waske in the first round in Bastad!

Massu's a set up against Acasuso, which is good news if Andy can't win the tounament, but only makes the semis or loses in the final

Kohlscreiber's a set down, but a break up against Jiri Novak - good news for Tim & Greg

nice isn't it! Even better - of those still in, Calleri can't catch up this week and JC Ferrero's already out of reach.

- unfortunately, there's three off the bottom who can still catch Tim, though.

Kohlschreiber beat Novak, and advances onto the bottom of the table. Two more wins & he overtakes Tim

The table's updated for today's results (on the assumption that Newport, like Gstaad is rained off for the rest of today.

Kohlschreiber makes his way onto the table as today's only climber.

Commentary

Andy  has had things go all his way today:

Above him, Bjorkman and Acasuso are both out, which helps if he goes all the way in Newport.

If Andy wins in Newport he can still jump 10 places to 29th! He still needs Massu or Soderling, not to win GStaad. Worst case is a 9 place jump to 30th.

For a finals place, he can jump 6 places to 33rd. He needs Massu and Soderling not to make their final and Almagro not to win his tournaments. Worst case he only jumps 4 places to 35th.

For a semis place, he can regain his start of the week ranking, and advance one to 35th. He needs Massu and Soderling not to make the semis, and Almagro to not make the final. Worst case he gains two places to 37th.

For a quarters place, he regains 38th. He needs Soderling to lose in R2 and Almagro to lose in the semis. Worst case he drops one to 40th.

For R2 loss, he gains no points, and has to look over his shoulder. Almagro needs a semi- final place,  and Mirnyi and  Horna need to win their tournaments. Worst case he drops 2 places to 41st.

Tim and Greg were less well served today. Kohlscreiber and Mayer  both won, only  Dlouhy lost.

Worst case for Tim is now to drop 6 places to 68 if Rochus, Lopez and Fish makes the semis, Vik and Kohlschreiber make their final, Mayer and Pavel win their tournaments. Unfortunately only Vik or Rochus would meet on the way, so six of the seven could do it.

For Greg, worst case is now to drop just 3 places to 62. this would need Gasquet, Ramirez- Hidalgo and Rochus to make the semis, Lopez, Fish and Vik to make their final and Kohlschreiber to win his tournaments. Five of the seven meet on the way, so only three can achieve these targets.

One big game today:

Soderling is up against David Ferrer.  This is big for Andy. If Ferrer wins, then a win for Andy will take him past the Swede again (and that'll be all the Swede's out of the Swedish open )

Otherwise, Andy wants Almagro, his nearest chaser, to lose to Calleri, Mirnyi to lose to a resurgent Pavel  and Horna  to lose to qualifier Korolev.

In the battle to overtake Greg, Gasquet  plays Vik and Ramirez-Hidalgo plays  Lopez.

However Tim fans will be hoping that Lopez goes out, along with Christophe Rochus who plays Gaudio, Fish who plays Alves, Vik  and Pavel.

Any pins today though into Robin Soderling!
