Yes, there were a couple of others that were also different from our list from last week: - Vliegen and Mathieu are on 920 points, with ATP listing Mathieu first (p33) and Vliegen p34 - Massu is on 890 not 955, therefore p37 below Andy and Novak - ATP lists Novak Djokovic (p35) above Andy (p36) - still one more than expected - Soderling is on 848 not 858 - Shirapan and Serra are both on 845, we had 860 for Serra, and ATP lists Shirapan (p40) before Serra (p41) - Benneteau is on 711 not 712 points (no place change) - Volandri is on 665 not 676 (no place change) - Sanguinetti and Rochus are both on 585, we have that correct, but ATP have them in the other order (Sanguinetti p64, Rochus p65)
yes, ahem there were a lot of players defending tournament points in week 2 of Wimbledon that didn't appear on the tennisfacts list I used. This, I think, explains the points differences. When 2 players have the same points, I tend to use a quick & dirty sort method (alphabetical order) rather than the official way of checking all of the players' tournaments and ranking based on results in grand slams and masters series only. Unless Andy is directly involved, it's too much hassle.
Well, without the hard- hitting journalism skills of Imoen at our disposal this week, I'll do today's commentary.
As first days go, yesterday was as bad as could have been expected for our trio of top Brits. Both Tim and Andy got overtaken by the players directly behind them: Ramirez- Hidalgo and Soderling.
Of the players who might threaten later in the week, Simon and Martin both got knocked out behind Andy. Sanguinetti, as well as Pashanski and Muller (below the end of the table) got knocked out below Tim & Greg. However Feliciano Lopez won his first round, behind T&G and goes on to play Ramirez- Hidalgo.
Today's tennis involves Andy, and loads of competitors.
The most important competitor today is Bjorkman, who'll go out of Andy's reach if he wins today.
Otherwise, the ones who need to go out early (R1 or 2) are: Johannsson in Bastad, so that Andy can overtake him if he makes the semis. Karlovic in Newport, to protect Greg's place.
Others close to Andy are: Massu, Matthieu, Moya, Chela, Almagro, Serra. Gasquet is close to Greg. Seppi, Rochus, Wawrinka and Fish are close to Tim.
All need Semi- finals spots to do damage, or go out of reach
