I twisted the pins so hard into Benneteau they ended up looking like corkscrews!

I'm preparing my model of Andy Roddick right now. . .

Seriously, even if Andy (M) gets no further this year, I'm well content. He has defended last year's points. Would be wonderful to get into the second week, though. . .

The pin pressure came off too soon. Mirnyi beat Blake Bjorkman beat Bracciali

So Greg drops two more places From 41st in the world to 57th in just five days

Novak Djokovic beat Youznhy, which is bad, seeing as Andy won , but at least there's not many left behind him to overtake, until we get to Mirnyi & Bjorkman,  if he can't get past the Roddick.

Tim's  geting safer and safer. Lee's out, Mahut's out. Next is Wawrinka up against Ancic.

No wonder he looked so uncomfortable out there, you make me feel almost sorry for him (only almost )

Bjorkman and Mirnyi both won so Greg loses another two places. But Mahut lost to Federer (a shocking result!) so Tim is safe from him.

I agree, it's enough that Andy has defended last year's points and this will take him to 42 in the rankings. I do hope he can get to the second week and a new career high in the rankings.

All pins in Wawrinka now please people.

I'm now sailing until Sunday night.  Could someone update the table for me

Thanks!

I can do the updating of the table (not sure the formatting will survive but I'll try) although it won't be until late tomorrow evening so if someone else can do it, feel free!

Coming soon to a messageboard near you...commentary for the day!

OK commentary. What happened today results-wise has already been posted further up the thread. The consequences of that in the rankings are:

Tim remains at 61 for another day, Greg drops down to 57 (this is a very costly fortnight for him) and Andy moves up to 42.

Pins for tomorrow: Wawrinka, Fish and Kohlschreiber please. These are the last three competitors who can overtake Tim and Greg.

Many many pins need to go into Bjorkman (Madeline please do whatever you did to Benneteau to him). He plays Mirnyi on Monday. If Bjorkman wins then he will overtake Andy (if Andy loses) but if Miryni wins, he'll be about 10 points behind Murray still. (complicated, Murray just win tomorrow, makes it much simpler!).

Then, any excess malice can go to Roddick to ensure a Murray win please! And Tursunov and Djokovic for it Andy reaches the quarters!

If Andy wins tomorrow he will rise to number 36 in the rankings, a rise of 6 more places and a new career best. If he then wins in round 4 he will get to number 32 or 30 (depending on how Djokovic and Tursunov do).

get sticking those pins in and I'll see if I can trip Roddick, Bjorkman, Wawrinka, Fish and Kohlscreiber up tomorrow if I see them on their way to the courts! (not sure how many of them I'll get away with before security gets wind, hope none of them read this messageboard)

Rob's first post updated - Andy up to 36!

We did a great job with the pins in Roddick, Wawrinka, Fish and Kohlschreiber! Not Tursunov, we'll have to redouble efforts for him in the next round.

Now, where did I put the wax - model of Baghdatis required!

Thanks Madeline.

As for the pins, I was watching Tursunov and to be fair to the guy he was the better players throughout and should never have gone down 2 sets. I tried sending evil looks at him but was to far away to have an effect. redoubling the efforts for next time as we speak!

Only him and Djokovic to put pins in for Andy - so he can gain 6 places instead of 4 if he wins round 4. (Oh yes, pins into Baghdatis as well, obviously!). Also Bjorkman/Mirnyi from behind but they play one another and would need to reach the semis to overtake now.

Looking even further ahead for Andy, pins into Verdasco please. He plays our good friend Stepanek (who, by the way is rumoured to be romantically linked with Hingis ). The winner of this match will play the winner of Bjorkman/Mirnyi.

That's it really. gets those pins in, you have a whole day to prepare!

Rob, seems you've been doing an excellent job, so i'll let you carry on. If there are any weeks when you are struggling to find time i'll step in and try to replicate the outstanding new version of our competitors tables!!

Apologies for getting a bit carried away but Andy is now in the top 36....will he be seeded at US Open??? only a few withdrawals would be required and  if he can make a bit more headway here and have a good few weeks then he could get it outright couldnt he? THough, he will be dropping his Atpos and Binghampton challenger wins points wont he?

i think the aptos points have dropped off according to robC/imoen but even if they do drop off won't he have enough points to replace those challengers?

No, the Aptos points don't drop off until the week after Wimbledon - the week comm. 17 July. Binghampton will drop off too in August, but they are the only points to defend before the USO. 60 and 40 respectively.

During that time he has entered tournaments every week (unless he withdraws from some of them) so should have a good chance to not only defend but improve the position if he plays as well as he is doing at the moment.

But hey, this is Andy. I'll wait and see!

Looks like we might need to extend it to 5 people above Andy espically if Andy beets Baghdatis. Is he likely t go above anyone inside the top 30?
