RE: Andy's Competitors Weeks 26/27 (Wimbledon)

If you've been doing it alphabetically, just how did Andy Murray end up before Novak Djokovic anyway? Or was it on first names?

Anyways, commentary. Not quite so much to say today!

Firstly, the rest of the Brits:

Mackin lost in five sets to Baghdatis (the world number 16 so not bad). He was defending 5 points from Wimbledon last year so no change to his ranking, unless someone overtakes him.

Goodall lost in three close sets. He gains 20 points for qualifiying and the first round. Loses 5 (defending). so gains 15, leaving him with 91 points, moving him from 398 to 354 in the rankings. A rise of 44, so well done Josh!

Lee won, very impressively in straights. So far that is a gain of the full 35 points as he doesn't have points from 18 tournaments, so that should take him from 252 to 211 in the rankings, a 41 rise.

Moving to how the pins worked today. Mainly good news. Simon, Malisse, Phau, C Rochus and Sanguinetti all lost . However, Martin, Mirnyi, and Youzhny all won. Mirnyi is the only one who gains a place at the expense of a Brit (Tim) but this leaves both Martin and Youzhny only one more win away from overtaking Andy.

Pins for tomorrow:

Andy: Please put pins into: Djokovic (currently playing Robredo and up one set on a tiebreak); Santoro (also playing, against Berdych, 2 sets apiece). These two are above Andy in the rankings and if they both lose and Andy wins he'll gain 5 places instead of 3 (if he wins). For if he loses pins into: Martin (majorly!) who plays Tursunov, probably tomorrow; Youzhny, probably won't play till Friday but start early!; Benneteau Andy's playing him, so we really don't want him to win! and Bracciali  who plays Galvani tomorrow.

Greg once again, only one person is threatening greg. Please do the same to Mirnyi as you did to Phau and hopefully the effect will be the same as well. Mirnyi will play Blake in round 3, probably on Friday.

Tim did remarkably well today, only dropping one place (to Mirnyi) however tomorrow could be costly. So really sharp pins into: Seppi who plays Agassi; Bjorkman who plays Dlouhy; Mayer who plays Roddick and Mahut and Wawrinka both of whom are in the third round and need to reach the fourth to overtake. Mahut plays Federer so hopefully not too many pins needed and Wawrinka plays Ancic.

That's all folks.

First names of course: If I'm going to do it wrong, no point in being complicated about it

Novak's now two sets up 76,62.  It's with serve in the third.

It's going to take some very impressive hexes to get him to lose from here: the lad's got class.

Seppi's  a set down (6-4), as Andre basks in the adoration of Court #1

Bjorkman's just broken Dlouhy to love in the third game, to go *2-1 up in the first

Djokovic finished things off quickly: 7-6,6-2,6-4.

Bjorkman's a set up, but it's with serve in the second, so Dlouhy's not out of it yet

Seppi's now two sets down to Agassi

Santoro's a break down to Berdych in the fifth

Brachiali'sat one set all....

- so not too bad so far. As for Djoko -  Andy's just going to have to win (Duh!)

Great pin- work folks: Bjorkman  dropped sets 3 &4. Lukas Dlouhy's come right back. 1-1 in the fifth. Keep working them into the Swede!

Agassi was too good for Seppi

Santoro didn't survive the shoot- out with Berdych

but Bracchiali's through, to line up alongside Martin, Youzhny and Benneteau waiting for andy to slip up

Are we sure about Mayer? - I'd rather see Andy play him than Roddick next round.......

Positive, He'll overtake Tim if he wins. Plus Andy will have a psycological edge over Roddick having already beaten him, AND if Mayer beats Roddick on grass then he's dangerous. And finally, i would rather Andy lost to the well known Roddick than the unknown Mayer-the press will have marginally less to slate him over (obviously I want him to win above all else). Is that enough reasons for ya?

By the way, Tursunov just won the first set against Martin 6-1. Keep the pins in though, there's still a long way to go!

OK, instructions received....although I might delay the pins a bit so that Roddick has a 5 setter & is knackered....

That I won't tell you off for! In fact, it's a very good idea...

Dimo did the business for us: Martin is out!

Let's hope Andy doesn't need it.

Benneteau  is two sets down, 4-4 in the serve, he's just broken back ....

Mayer is also two sets down. 1-0 to Mayer with serve in the third.

Table updated.

Grosjean goes off the top. Tursunov, Djokovic, Bracciali, Bjorkman, Fish and Kohlschreiber advance.

IF Andy can finish off Benneteau tomorrow, it's looking good.  Fingers crossed.

Over to the dugout:  Imoen.

Murray was the only Brit to survive until the end of today. Hopefully he can go further. His match will be finished off, second on centre court. After Mirnyi/Blake.

Pins today were effective against Santoro, Martin, Mayer, and Seppi. But ineffective against Bracciali (that was OK for this round but...see below!), Djokovic (see note on Bracciali) and Bjorkman (bad news, cost Tim a place).

Pins for tomorrow/round 3:

Tim the list is much shorter today, luckily. Tim can only lose a further four places at worst (unless H-T Lee reaches the quarters). So pins into: Mahut who plays Federer second on court 1; Wawrinka who plays Ancic fourth on Centre; Fish who plays the qualifier Irakli Labadze(ranked 166) on Saturday, lots of pins for that one! and Kohlscreiber  who is OK for one more round but winning far more than he should, he plays Nieminen on Saturday.

Greg two people are now in a position to overtake, the doubles pairing of Bjorkman and Mirnyi. Both need to win only one more match. So pins into them! Both play tomorrow, Mirnyi against Blake, 1st on Centre and Bjorkman against Bracciali 1st on Court 14.

Andy Some major pins into Benneteau overnight please, we really need Andy to win so he can move up the rankings! Also into: Youzhny/Djokovic who play each other 1st on court 18. If Murray loses and Youzhny wins, he'll lose a place but if Murray wins we want Djokovic to lose so Murray can overtake by beating Roddick. So I think, pins into YOUZNHY more, just in case! Also Bracciali but he can only overtake if Murray loses and Bjorkman will overtake Greg if Bracciali loses so choose which one you want in that match!

that's it for this evening, keep up the good work and fingers crossed that Andy wins tomorrow as it will make things much much easier!
