Francesca Schiavone (Ita) (11) v Melanie South (GB)
Ai Sugiyama (Jpn) (18) v Naomi Cavaday (GB)
Tathiana Garbin (Ita) v Katie O'Brien (GB)
Karolina Sprem (Cro) v Anne Keothavong (GB)
out of the british women, only O'Brien and possibly Cavaday got a shot. It probably be difficult for all the others. As Naomi 's a leftie, gonna be tough Ai to read her serve imo!
Naomi seems to have found her rhythm a bit getting one break back and holding serve a few times. It's now 5-4 to with Sugiyama serving for the set, only the rain came down so play suspended. Hopefully Cavaday manages to deal with it and keeps her momentum to stay in the first set.

not bad being 5-4 down against a top 30 player!! was watching the match from the 2nd game, naomi looked a bit rusty, but as soon as she won her 1st game at 4-0, she started to flow. difficult for her to construct the points carefully, also she got a booming forehand! BTW get really annoyed with castle and durie commentaries talking about school and tennis!!
Keep it up naomi! at least you're being calm which is unusual from the brits!!
I am very impressed. To be 4-0 down and then fight back to 5-4 down against a former top ten player is impressive. Even if she does lose the first set this will do her confidence the world of good. I expected her to be nervous out there, but she is showing guts too.
Good luck to Naomi. I would not be shocked if she won this match. Sleeping with the thought of serving for the set against a girl who came back from being 4-0 down and who is ranked in the 500s can't be the greatest feeling. Hopefully Sugiyama will think about it long and hard and choke as the pressure is on her now.
