I've never warmed to Harriet as a person but I had to vote for her this month because of the way she's rebuilt her career at a relatively advanced age and addressed the mental issues that were holding her back (and were a big part of why I didn't like her!), which has allowed her to finally deliver at a level commensurate with her talent.
Shout out to Sonay and Hannah, who were my picks before Harriet shocked us all this weekend!
I have to take into account the quality of the opponents and , good as Harriets win was , Sonays wins at Wuhan were against a different level of player, as you would expect in a high grade 1000 event.
Have been dithering today especially after the logic of Jon's vote for Harriet as Sonay has already had so many votes this year. However, Sonay's return was so impressive that I've stuck with her as my vote this time. Harriet's win was outstanding and unexpected but at a different level, as were Hannah's and Ella's. So many worthy candidates that make it a hard choice but a good one to have.
What a month! Several of this month's contenders would have won in another month and other players like Alicia Dudeney would have got a nomination. Hannah's success and climb up the rankings augurs well for the future. Soney's amazing return from injury and defeat of so many high ranked players was outstanding. Harriet's first WTA title at an age when many players are planning their next career was totally unexpected, particularly as she entered as a qualifier, six of her seven matches went the distance and she won them all. That would have required and extraordinary level of fitness both physical and mental. Therefore in an extraordinary month my vote goes to Harriet.

Thanks Peter for that great overview! And landing where I landed but more eloquently!
